Luxe: 5
1 -> 0 Gamma Crate

Lamm squeezes his fists around the handrail surrounding a display space. He grimaces in apprehension as Dunk, BAE and Theo confront the Carnifex.

Are they going to- Oh yes, yes they are.

Lamm laughs in relief and open palm slams the "GIVE GOODIE" button.

- Congratulations to all of you, that can't have been easy.

- ...and regards to the fallen.

Following this, the Late Johnson's DVice chimes, bringing up the Concordant logo followed by Hilde's face. "Wrecker Johnson. Dinosaur Gum

Long after the night shift had settled into their cubidorms and entered their weekend workflow, Dr. Skipp Wiley Sr. was still at the desk of his corner office, getting deep into his cups while simulcasting the Wreckers' feeds on his office's massive holo-display. Dr. Wiley slugged back the last dregs of his murky, fizzy drink, warily eyed the glass in his hand as though it had personally insulted him, and then slammed the empty cup down on the button to order another one. He was going to have to start rationing his ethanol intake for the night if he wanted to make it home to his own bed at some point, so he dialed down the outbound order to only contain 80% of the normal BooZ content.

Leaning back in his smoothly ergonomic anti-grav office chair, Dr. Wiley kicked his feet up onto the chair's extendable leg rest and tucked his hands behind his head. His world was starting to swirl a little bit...

What had he been doing that had gotten him to this state today? That's right: Junior - his precocious growing boy - had told him that he wanted to be Wrecker when he grew up, just like his original had told him so many cycles ago.

"Oh - whazzat?" Dr. Wiley stumbled out of a stupor, sitting up in his chair at the sound of his office door opening. A friendly robot face emerged and wheeled inside. "Oh - it's just you, Anderos."

The new cafébot whisked up to Dr. Wiley's desk, skirting around the holo feed, and delivered the balding man his Longest Island Ice-T: Diet Nightcap.

"Your drink," it meted out in a synthetic bleat.

"'Atta boy, Anderos," muttered Dr. Wiley as he curled his hands around the refreshingly frosty drink glass.

The server-bot Anderos retrieved the empty glass Dr. Wiley had left on his desk and departed from the room without another word.

As Dr. Wiley took a sip from his liquid intoxicant, his eyes blearily locked onto something on the holo-screen: a detail he hadn't noticed before.

"Wait - - - I reck'nize that fuggn' hat!" Dr. Wiley blurted, and he suddenly set his drink aside and sat upright to type something out into his sponsor console. "I gotta stop Junior from killin' 'mself."

A harsh metallic tang in his ears. A Wrecker was making contact. Troublesome, for noncorp 2ways required an active comprehension of words spoken, rather than the far more efficient subconscious neurodrivers that sponsor messages could be made elicit. If it had the capacity to sigh, Vatman's auto-pedagogic neo-cortex would have done so as it unencrypted the cultural flash genengrams where conscious awareness of language was encoded. "Aight. Loud and clear, futureman. Loud and fuckin' clear. Hit it, Groupie."

"This is a story, all about how

The Manburgler sprinted on camera, having presumably followed The Late Johnson from around the start of the map to now. He crested over the flesh mounds slavering at the thought of eating that jelly brain, and ran right into a bullet that turned one half of it's head into chunky salsa.

"Caught you slippin' mothertrucker." Exclaimed Johnson, racking back the bolt and turning his attention to the Fillet and fired another shot.

As the two wreckers keep advancing through the bowels of the meateor, their attention is suddenly drawn by a shrill beeping noise emanating from a small hovering drone. Following her instincts, Shines-in-Heaven immediately pounces on the offending object, crushing it between her powerful jaws. As she begins to chew on the remains, the offending noise ceases, only to be replaced by a loud, hacking cough, as Shines-in-Heaven recovered from one of the bits of electronics trying to go down the wrong pipe. As she pulls a small piece of plastic out of her mouth, the camera zooms in to reveal the logo of the Magitek Mafia.
"What is this? Isn't it enough for Magitek to directly sell equipment to baseline-supremacist scum, have they truly sunk so low to try and target innocent contestants just for working for Pertinax?" she begins to rant, "Why, under the leadership of Donato they have definitely started to plump new depths of moral turpitude. What happened to traditional values, like finding a severed cyberpony head in your sleeping pod? Not anymore, those drat bean counters that have taken over have determined that it's a bad credit:threat ratio, so no more severed head funds. They have definitely sold out and gone corporate. Utter rat bastards the lot of them, and Donato is one of the worst. Why, back when his grandfather Ganjdalf the Green was head of the organisation you knew where you stood with them, but now it's all slick business lang and corpo speak. Utterly disgusting." As Shines continued to talk she began working herself up into a righteous fury denouncing the rival of her sponsor.

Listen Along: There Is No God - Mrs. Magician

"He speaks!" Theo Reticule exclaimed over the comms, in reaction to hearing Vatman Jones scream and then elicit a greeting over the airwaves. "Okay - there're three of us in rigs nearby, so just holler like you did over the comms if you need anything and we'll be right over!"

Theo scanned the greasy pits he was rapidly traversing in his Gamma Bounder, 'Terrabrad.'

"Oh, speaking of, keep yer peepers peeled for a Sarcophagous Horror that's been lurkin' about : it's a big blue lizard-guy covered in bones, like its the dinosaurmageddon going on or some shiv."

"Anywhatsits," Theo cut himself off, realizing he was rambling. "Nice to meatchu."

Booking it around the grease swamps in his overclocked Bounder, Theo leapt along his circuitous scan route while searching out for his clever reptilian bounty. He was hoping it would show itself and chase him like it had the last time they'd fought, but it didn't seem to want to show its face this time.

At the very end of his route, Theo was to meet Bonny Anne Elsewhere and Dunk Tuggum. When he drew nearer to their proposed meeting location, Theo heard the sound of rapid gunfire from Bonny-Anne's Gamma Enforcer riot cannons over his music.

"That you, Bonny-Anne? I'm comin' in hot - fresh and ready!" Theo warned, firing up TerraBrad into ramming gear.

With a mighty springing pounce, Theo's Bounder leapt gracefully into the air and landed with its feet right on the peak of a large meaty pustule, a squishy hill overlooking a swarm of Unctuous Horrors that were trying to defend their slippery Horror-orgy from the threat of Bonny-Anne Elsewhere's rig. As TerraBrad careened down the huge organic mass, the bulge's skin ruptured and spilled forth with a wave of frothing digestive fluids. On the heavy crash of burning acids and grease, Theo slid down the slope towards where Bonny-Anne was, skidding sideways on his Bounder's feet like a surfer.

The center mass of the writhing Unctuous Horror swarm was totally swept up by the sudden flood of corrosive liquids, and at the very end of the splash zone, Theo's Bounder skidded to a nice and clean stop in the shallow grease.

"I haven't seen a mass of noodlers that greasy since I ate a plate at Donato Magnifico's own restaurant!" Theo quipped, surveying the carnage of the thrashing beasts. "And lemme tell ya, my stomach was an unctuous horror the next day all right! Next time I'll just order myself some cooking oil straight from the bottle - cut out them noodlers!"

Theo made a smile with his toothy fangs. Despite his love for authentic gangster-adjacent cuisine, he was clearly on a comedic riff and need to ride this wave to shore.

"Two for Two on Headhunting going wrong in the game so far, not great, could be better, bit poo poo all things considered. Who wants to engage in historically re-creative murder violence with classical weaponry? I see a lot of mass-production line samey weapons on the board let's spice it up just a little."

Any scientist with the right background can brew his own booze.

...

What do you mean electrolytes aren't used for brewing booze? That's silly!

...

Well when all you have are chunks of TNE and an overly large water ration, all the world looks like a still!

Is He Actually Dangerous

Ned noted the death beacon pop with detached grif. Acolyte and Opal got a prompt follow-up message.

<"Gotcher census, ripplerz on latey The Late, ladies. Know them feels.">

He backed HurtBurn into a probably-soon-to-be-toy-patented crouch-and-ready-to-spring 'ambush' position while still guarding Shines' scavving back, then paused to address the camdrones for a bit, waving his skinny arms around as the Saf-T Pal hovered in circles to avoid colliding with them in the limited space of the rig's pilot seat.

"Anyway all, you noticed yet how I'm a scanwiz savant with the DVice, yeh? I can do the 'mination mojo while on the run, upside down, topsy-turvy, wrapped around the Rig controls or in the middle of a slaverin' hellpit gettin' burninated as I puke up my gun. 'n I don't just scan around - I scan inside, cuz I know where it's at. I get to the real honkin' gutz of things. How do I manage it? Well... I could say it's cuz' I got that bit of the ol' scandirish luck, or that I'm just that bad of rear end."

Slitherin' Sidious grinned and slapped the Saf-T Pal near its tush to illustrate. The thing beedly-booped at him in the kind of indignant tone only a synth subjected to biological fancy could manage.

"But nah, truth is, any headhunter does what I do. Scannin' good is as EZ as wompin' a spacerat and keepin' it down 'till it dies. You can if you hangry and take it serious. I keep my scans spot-free, see? No gamz, no jamz, no bee-jewlz or AAA-Rs gettin' in the way of my sights or my prey. Them appos is trash for the canny hunt'os, cuz' you gotta stay hot and wired to stay alive and fed. You gotta accept boredom, cuz' good things come to them what ain't distracc by the pops and ups, 'n who go for the kill."

He tapped the beat-up old piece of tech kept fastened to his arm and suppressed with a wild grin the nausea that was half poisoning and half childhood traumas.

"No, this Concordant DVice is lean, clean and optimized, 'n so is (relatively) this foo' from an rear end-wards asteroid. Look wreckfionados, Im'ma toss you my Wreckords real-time while giving the surrounds a one over - just cuz' I can give you the cred-skinny on the low-tight Horror story that is a Ned while the data 'crues in. Cuz' a proper pro got nothin' to fear and nothin' to hide. Not even whatever juicy vittles the WCLTD got to baste."

ACT: Ambush :rimshot:
freeScan: Boosted Wide Scan + Tight Scan Slitherin' Sidious
Doing Quality & Professionalism with a Boosted Scan ACT. nope, just ranting for the sake of it

Yeah, I know the Ambush thing won't happen. Just assume cramming himself - or his vehicle - up a tight nook so he can get the drop on things is Ned's basic state of being. At least when he got nothing better to do.

Cyka didn't miss a beat, one hand each on the shotgun and rail loader. "See, folks? Sometimes the problem is not enough bang for your buckeroo. You got to milk those sebaceous glands! Nose to the autogrindR!"

Stowing the shotgun, Cyka collected the final batch of refined GREEZ and handed all three to the fry guy.

"Because sometimes, if you work hard and know the right people, you get to upcycle from garbo badstuff...

Cyka crumpled Mr. Stinger into scrap and accepted the completed transaction,

"To the hottest new productz around."

Cue pose with new weapon.

"Brainfood Upcycled Nootropics. Anyone else just wishes they could look this cool."

ACT: Harvest Greez and give all three Greez to the Fry Guy. Scrap Mr. Stinger due to weapons cap if necessary.

Listen Along: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (live tour version) - Daft Punk

A new song popped onto Theo Reticule's TuneZEN and the dog-boy Wrecker snapped to attention at the sounds of the cheering crowds building within the ancient, live-recorded track. There was an anticipation growing in the pit of Theo's stomach: the expectation of prime loot. He could practically smell the greasy noodlers at Bibbity di Bobbity already, even through the closed hatch of his Bounder, 'TerraBrad'.

The six Unctuous Horrors that were attacking Bonny-Anne were finished - Dunk and Theo had seen to that. The two Wreckers' Bounders had made a mess of things, blowing out the contents of a large, meaty cyst filled with digestive acids all over the Horrors. The gathering of slimy lizard monsters had gone from thrashing about in the frenzied throes of copulative ecstasy to writhing frantically in the burning agony of the soon-to-be dead, all within moments. One of the slippery creatures had managed to slap a sizzling claw across Theo's Bounder as he passed by, leaving a splattering of burning acids to eat away at TerraBrad's paint job. Aside from that cosmetic damage, though, the rig's armor was otherwise unharmed.

"Wow, Dunk," Theo remarked over the comms, seeing that the fight was was gone from the horrors' eyes, "who'd'a thunk we'd pull off a score like this without any prep-work whatsoevs! Clutch as cargo, yo - way to go!"

If Theo and Dunk hadn't been in rigs at the time he would have suggested they perform the ancient rite of the high-five, but he'd leave that for another day's victory.

Theo activated TerraBrad's scrap-scraper protocols and set to work on collecting the Horrors' slowly-burning biomatter. He needed to squeeze out a little extra-refined medi-fluid from their biomass for a medical procedure, so he flicked on the MM-RATS' auto-skimmer and let the amazing rig tool work its magic.

As Theo and his rig cleaned up the area of available salvage, the Wrecker's suit worked overtime to scrub his irradiated bones clean and to regenerate the precious marrow within. Soon, Theo hoped, he'd be back on his feet without feeling quite so brittle!

Action: (No Autofalcons are charged, so no spoilers this time!)
> FreeACT.Salvage: Theo salvages the hex contents [6x Unctuous Horrors], receiving 2+X Scrap and making a 1d6+5 Lootroll vs the Unctuous Horror corpses (Autosuccess??)!
> FreeACT.Salvage: Theo activates the MM-RATS' bonus Salvage ability, spending 1 Rig Power unit to refill one 1 Med unit!
> FullACT: Theo performs a Heal ACTion on himself, spending 3 Med units to remove 3 Rad tokens (3 -> 0 Med units, 3 -> 0 Rad, 2/2 -> 2/5 HP)!
> Challenge completed: Gu$tav's >memetic combat: after succeeding at an unBoosted ACT, discuss how fuckin' winging it is the way to go
