Having been all ready for a heated Rig-to-Rig brawl, Slitherin' Sidious popped the hatch of HurtBurn to do an appreciative golfclap at the Vatman's daring disable.

"Well lookit that! Heckin' well do--oooh naw."

The headhunter's chipper voice slowed to a drawling mid-congratulatory stop as the telltale makeup and wig became apparent while the Vatman picked himself up from the ground beef.

"Don't even need a Bozon detecc to tell he's got the clown plague, Shines. Let's back off before ol' paintface pops 'im like a wet fart just to get at us. Best o' luck, Vats! You sure gonna need it."

As he began to steer the machine away, something tugged at Ned's heartstrings. Maybe it was the particularly piteous wailing of an only-recently mentally cognizant vatmanbaby, whose head was - frankly speaking - worth more to Ned dead than alive, that reminded him that his mama had taught him better. That even in the most unlikely and morbid of situations there was a possibility that one might still make it out alive.

Perhaps the Vatman deserved that shot. He craned his over the hatch's edge and glanced down at the great beauty he'd had the fortune of Krewing up with.

"Ah fuggit, changed my mind. Shines, mind if we stop and see how this pans out?"

Pausing, he glanced off into the long distance from his vantage point.

"Huh, actually looks like there's some scrummage ahead anyway. Might not want to get involved."

He slumped over onto his stomach and horked up his gun, taking a potshot from the elevated position at a sk8, mostly for the sake of it.

Listen Along: Move Your Feet - Junior Senior

Hopping along in his Gamma Bounder 'TerraBrad', Theo just couldn't stop himself from bouncing along in his rig's cockpit to the aural beats being broadcast by his TuneZEN audio DVice. The bipedal walker's powerful but lightweight feet pounded into the soft, meaty floor and pushed off bits of bone and cartilage and sinew underneath, giving the Bounder a surprising amount of spring to its step. Gone were the days where Theo had to muck about in the grease shallows, constantly moving out of fear for getting stuck in the swamps. Now, at least, he was on solid ground chuck, with only a couple patches of greasiness here and there. Best of all, the Luxe Crucible's lights could be seen in the near distance, and Dunk Tuggum was on his way.

TerraBrad's foot stomped with a wet squelch onto a pair of pustules swelling from the floor, and Theo saw twin streams of ketchup red and mustard yellow goop jet out from the two pustules' pores, splattering the near wall with colorful sauces. Clearly, Theo had entered condiment country.

A pair of Unctuous Horrors tootled their frill spigots as they slipped out of a grease mire and approached the slimy seasoning Theo had sprayed. Theo continued along in his Bounder, his hatches firmly closed against the elements, but he knew that the Horrors wouldn't be satisfied with a sprinkling of sauce alone: what they really wanted to dine on was blood-bathed Wrecker meat. Theo understood that it would only be a matter of time before these overgrown grease geckos would show up at the Luxe Crucible too, looking for the three F's (a fight, some food, and a f...riend), and Theo wanted to be ready for their beastly advances.

Theo was so busy scanning the two Unctuous Horrors on his trail that he'd completely missed seeing three Ribbon Skates float down from the meat-cavern's ceiling and attach their energy-sucking mouths onto TerraBrad's exterior. When Theo noticed the warning flashes in his rig's display, he just about spit.

"Heyya, whazziss?" Theo slurred angrily, still moderately loopy from the drugs busily kickstarting his whole system.

"Unh, not - no!" He exclaimed, when he saw that there were three Ribbon Skates that had attached themselves to Theo's rig like a trio of flying remora eels.

Theo growled and leaned forward at his rigs controls. Still charging towards the Luxe Crucible, Theo angled his Gamma Bounder to run up alongside a meaty wall with a couple gristly bone spurs sticking out, grinding the rig up against the wall to scrape off one of the glowing translucent parasites.

The Ribbon Skate was splattered utterly, smeared against the wall like a grisly jam.

Hey hey, Wreckers! Shame about that Dunk fella, but that hat's movin' right along and that's what really matters! I ain't gonna get into the real intricate magiteknical details on an open channel like this - YEAH SUCK IT PERTINAX THESE'RE TRADE SECRETS, SEE? - but ya mighta noticed that the hat's feelin' kinda unstable on that noggin of yours. Put real simple, that means the curse's gettin' a little nervous and startin' to sweat. Sometimes that means the sweat gets on others, but hey - that's just the price of doin' business, kiddo!

On to the next step. And in case ya start wonderin' just how much more bullshit ya gotta go through... the step after this is where we wrap it all up. New Challenge:

Orrr..... ya know what? The boys down in R&D are tellin' me that hat's showing some unusual resonance with those giblets that Dunk wrecker left behind. Though it ain't exactly conventional, ya might say he's opened the door - NOT THE GATES, YA gently caress RIGHT OFF - to what we'll call an alternative solution, see? I gotta warn ya though, kid... unlike every most some the occasional Magitek product, satisfaction is ABSOLUTELY not guaranteed on this one.

:siren: The Pertinax Pro-lapse (Repeatable 3/5) - After failing a roll or taking damage, explain exactly why it's Pertinax's fault that such a terrible fate has befallen you.

A better rifle would be nice to have, considering the absolute no-go on the sk8 kill - looks like it'd managed to feed on something when... whatever had gone bad over there had gone down. That poor krew had to be cursed or something. Then again, its survival might still be fortuitous for their Ned and Shines' goals. He gagged down his gun, cracked a jaw back in place and got to his feet, precariously balancing on the raised platform of his hatch and shrugging apologetically at the grumbling Shines as she trundled over to the Vatman, all while beginning to tap away on his weathered DVice, beginning to scan the Neönderthal.

"Okay, let's do that quickpeep then. How bad has the Vats got it?"

He began to consider the data that poured in, tutting critically here and there.

"Well, I'm no educoco-cajones lung bandit, but on a quick skim... good news is those pheremones'll make him fit in with the locals. Bad news? He dead if he can't get that Newtype genematerial to regenerate his BI-OS when tumor town goes critical. We could refill his CS-Med with a bit of Sanige- no? No. No, guess not."

Ned quickly backed off from Shines' beginning glare and instead typed something into his CS-Armor's terminal. With a rising hum, a hiss and a dull thump, the headhunter leaned forward and emergency jettisoned the backup CS-drive that had been filled with the Bozon Detector algorithms. It arced through the air to bounce neatly off of a disgustingly protruding wart and into the Vatman's shell-shocked hands.

"So that Bozon Detector'll have to do ya instead, Vats. U O ME, comprichende? Maybe your sponsor-buddy Rook can cash that in. Seriously, what was ever so hard about getting me some tongue?"

With a wistful sigh, the headhunter tucked himself back into HurtBurn's confines.

Councilman Six leaned away from the camera to listen to something being said off camera, "Two's lowbrow High Concept hire has been liquidated? Finally. Listening to that stream was too insufferable for me to bear. At least he didn't embarrass us against that rig. Small blessings."

The councilman leaned back into frame, easing back into a Television Slouch in his richly appointed chair. He spent a couple of silent minutes twiddling around on his tablet, altering a certain former employee's cloning/engram records. 2Dunk, successfully purged. Much better; now Six was in a showtime mood. "Ah, what a fine evening it is, Sophisticates of The Decree. I hope you're all having as lovely a time as I am!", he addressed the audience with all the 'warmth' he could muster, "A bit of a departure from usual, this episode I am coming to you live from the bridge of the Battlecruiser Morrigŕn! Let's see if we can't keep this meateor from hitting anything expensive in this, the pinnacle of space based luxury-warfare."

The Councilman steepled his gloved fingers, "I don't have much faith in this gaggle of dullards, so let's start light."

New Challenge!
Rigorous Self Critique: Describe in detail (illustrations optional) what you're wearing and detail the life choices you made that caused you think it was a good idea to wear such dreck on television, so the viewers know not to repeat your mistakes.

"There's a bit more on the line for this challenge than mere luxe! One blessed Wrecker will receive the most bespoke of prizes: an exclusive sponsorship offer. Choose your words carefully, Councilman Six out."

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLAN

The floating form of the CEO of Diamond hovers back into the exclusive gold and orichalcum plated Sponsors Only room.

"Good thing I have the feed going right into the ol' eyes, otherwise I would have missed that spectacular assassination from my sponsee. That's a curious amalgam of buzzing creepies that's going somewhere!" That dogboy still has my hat, though. James!"

"Yes sir?"

"Gah! Don't do that! Is bad luck to sneak up on a man with a disintegration field built into his booth, you know. Of course you know, this is your fourth? clone. Now, is there any of that green glowy stuff they found on Alfa-Gamma 4783 Minor still sitting around? Well if there is have some of the boys stuff it into the funny squid drone and send it on its way. Maybe with something cheap attached to it, like a Fabrikit, or a rock. Then send those moon boots to the hiver. They should appreciate the extra ability to go boing around."

"Sir, we no longer have any of the green glowy goo you liked so much. You used it all turning that orphanage into an arena so you could make a dead pool during a the lunch party last month."

"Well drat. James! Don't go looking for the goo! It's gone! Just cram it with some extra uranium!"

Spending 26L for a RADrone with a fabrikit to Theo, here's to hoping he gets extra glowy! Spending 11Diamond + 24Talcum for a Healdrone with a Jump Assist Module "Moon Boots" inside.

"Today I will cause problems on purpose"

The Historical Recreation and Restoration Society: We now return to the Origin of Clowns.
Luxe Box: 0

The second period of Clowning as ascribed by Honcology is the period we would call Classical Clowning where the the first popular usage of the term 'Clown' in literature and recordings of the time period began entering the mainstream proper. One popular theory is that it was not so much in a Circus that the Modern Clown started to take shape but the theatre, and was originally a archetypical character within a genre of show known as the 'harlequinade'. Of particular note in these shows were five characters; 'the harlequin' a very smart, debonair kind of clown a romantic individual and comedian by nature obsessed with the Lady clown Columbine, he would frequently be the starring role in the performance. There was also Pierrot a sort of the designated butt of the joke, whether he invites mockery or sentimentality depends on the observer, Pantaloon a 'villainous' clown as far as you can get in a light hearted romp such as this, he often would be the miserly, elderly father of Columbine who would get in the way of the two lovers attempt to elope but would always outwitted by the clever Harlequin.

But of note to us here is of course, The Clown. Once they were merely a sort of country bumpkin character a servant to the villainous Pantaloon who would often get in the way more of his boss more than help. But as time went on that role changed, and suddenly it was the Clown who would be the primary instigator of chaos, it was the clown who would be playing practical jokes on the characters with the assistance of Pantaloon who was now rewritten as the Clown's elderly sidekick, and it was the Clown who ultimately became the foil of the Harlequin.

Speaking of antagonistic and villainous clowns though, Opal I see you and Acolyte have managed to find the Calorie Clown again, do you intend to fight this creature head on?

Acolyte's DVice chimes. "Wrecker Acolyte. Based on observation from the Sponsor Lounge, it is non-standard for these mutants to transform in such a manner when killed. It appears the Calorie Clown may somehow use the bodies of its followers to construct a new clone for itself to rapidly transport itself around the meator; it appears that the Clown likely already had designed that mutant as its point of entry before you pulled the trigger. Good luck- the Clown has already killed a Wrecker, and should be considered extremely dangerous. Director Stahl out."

Whether this cool, dry recitation of fact qualifies as 'reassuring' is an open question, but Hilde Stahl signs off in the knowledge that she has provided the specific reassurance requested.

Listen Along: Just Dropped In - Kenny Rogers & The First Edition

Even though he'd taken the longer route, Theo Reticule's overclocked Gamma Bounder TerraBrad had enough of an edge that the dog-man-Wrecker was almost winning the Bounder-race to the Luxe Crucible. At the end very of the final stretch, however, Dunk and Theo had been neck and neck in their Bounders, so close to one another that Dunk had expertly rammed his rig into a Ribbon Skate attached to TerraBrad's hull, blowing out its innards like a bowling ball dropped onto a tube of toothpaste. The two Wreckers had pounded down the meatway to the finish line after that, where only one of them would cross it alive.

Just when Dunk and Theo were both only a single Bounder-leap away from reaching the Luxe Crucible's Rig access terminal, Dunk's Gamma Bounder suddenly shut down mid-stride and slammed to the ground in a crouching halt.

Theo didn't notice the Slüus logo splashed across the screen-of-death over Dunk's cockpit until he'd hit the race checkpoint, slowed down, and turned his rig fully around.

"That was close - Dunk?" Theo queried, his head cocking to the side.

The enigmatic D-Breaker Dunk Tuggum had performed some strange stunts in the past, and at first Theo had thought Dunk was pulling a fast one, but then he saw Dunk's vitals were gone, his comms were unresponsive, Dunk was slumped over in his cockpit camera with a dark ichor seeping from his cranial cavity, and a slew of notifications from the Wrecking Crew Challenge App was telling him that Talcum B. Buzzen was being credited and rewarded for the kill.

"I'm sorry - what?!" begged Theo, stunned and incredulous, and then he took a selfie to commemorate the moment.

Just as he sent off the Precious Moment to Wrecking Crew H.Q.'s review, a comms signal from inside the Luxe Crucible was sent his way.

Lónan Murder-Birb posted:

"Hey there, wrecker designation Reticule was it? Friendunit or foeunit? You got some mighty salvage opz set up here, fancy sharing? Though uh, might have to hold that thought. There is about half a dozen bogies inbound and my backpack is full of volatiles so you best be settin' up an ambush or something. Sorry! Price of admission an' all that. I'd get in the freebounder but I can't risk the Crucible kersploding if I take my hands of off this barrel of worms, you understand right? So uh, try not to shake things around to much whilst I get that done if you want to stay in one piece. Peace."

It was Lónan Murder-Birb, the one Exo-Wrangler with the murderobo-bird that had killed Theo's Autofalconoid Merlin earlier this season, aptly enough. According to the Challenge App, Lónan had recovered Merlin's Remotivator.

"Uh... what?!" Theo managed. "Sure, whatevs L. Murder-Birb. I gotsta bounce for a refill anyways - they're all yours: both the Luxe Crucible and the Dunk-man's old Bounder. Corny gratis to you for all your lots. Peace."

Another message from another channel caught Theo's attentions. He had to stay put: a delivery from Diamond IAMC (of all Sponsors) was sending something his way.

"Oh," Theo said to Lónan, striking up conversation again. "and if you'd ever see a reason to want to return to me my Merlin's bitz, by the by, I'd be plenty appreciative. Birdz will be Birbz!"

While he and Lónan were talking shop, Theo dug around in his toolkit and his scrap-bag: if he was chatting with a fellow Wrecker then had time to work. He had his busted LEKTR0flangR to fix, after all, before he got himself re-juiced.

Sponsors: Whoa whoa whoa, not so hasty there, Diamond IAMC: I just saw your order for me right after Dunk died mysteriously, a kill that was credited to your sponsored Wrecker, Talcum B. Buzzen. While I appreciate you buying me, Dunk's co-Wrecker, a cheap-but-helpful supply item that I could use with my Gamma Bounder, I couldn't help but notice that - instead of a helpful HEALdrone or SHOTdrone - you're sending it to me on an Experimental RADrone... which could actually be more detrimental to me than the Fabrikit would be helpful! Just so you're warned, anything bad that comes out of this delivery will likely result in an appropriate response from the proper entities! Thanks!

Sponsors 2: Hey, yo, so, Magitek Mafia, something fishy-squishy is up. I could really use the following order, as soon as magically possible (I'll have enough Luxe after this selfie gets processed!):
