I suggested in the Sentai thread that the Lupins be the Pats turned vigilantes because the system was corrupted, and the Pats be monster-people with ranger powers like the Psychos.

So basically the gangler are secretly running the police department. Problem solved for the most part. You just have to figure out if Noel is still a double agent or something else such as two different people.

Really? When did you first start the main book? I've enjoyed it for the most part, especially Shattered Grid. Beyond The Grid was a slog, though. Necessary Evil also leans pretty heavily on Shattered Grid, so if you didn't like that as much as I did it might annoy you. Overall I thought it was a pretty good examination of The Power Transfer and Adam's, Aisha's and Rocky's characters alongside the world expansion.

Oh, I started when the book did and fell off before we got to Shattered Grid. That's why I wondered if it wasn't the initial writer I didn't care for.

Oh, ok. Yeah, if you didn't even get to Shattered Grid I'd suggest giving that another look. I'd say that's the high point of the book so far though, so if it doesn't grab you there's probably no reason for you to keep going. There's a few neat side stories though, like Alpha 5 meeting the Ninja Steel team and knowing one of their mentors through a hinted-at adventure.

He's got these awesome red dragon thunderzord coins. I bought one. He wasn't set up to take credit cards though, so he had to ask Nakia Burrisse at the next table to charge me for it and spot him. To which she said "Ok, Mr Caaaaar DEENUS". It was a very cute interaction.

The two of them and Catherine Sutherland are shockingly beautiful people in person by the way.

By which I mean it's not shocking that they are beautiful, but you think you have met beautiful people before and then you're like "No I guess I hadn't met beautiful people until now."

I sort of don't know what to say about him, because he certainly isn't the delusional gaffe machine some of the cast are, but allegedly you should not get him started about the gays.

To summarize: Dude posts a lot of shirtless pics of himself on social media (I mean a lot), and then becomes clearly uncomfortable with with feedback from male accounts in the comments, yet continues posting pictures that only show off his muscles and bulge. This discomfort may or may not come from alleged nude leaks on some gay-oriented porn sites. I've heard this phobia extends to fans who have said that they headcanon the Rocky character as not-straight, but fan encounter tales are hearsay that you shouldn't use to judge people with unless they involve serious allegations.

Steve Cardenas was super cool to hang out with, and I feel bad that most of the local fans that wanted to see him probably came the day before at the other comic store. Supposedly the rangers were offered a mil each for the movie, but Saban put a stop to that because he thought they’d never come back to the tv show after that.

Unfortunately he had no coins. He said he’s getting twenty five more this week, and that’s it before he moves to London.

Like you said, it's not surprising, but I still can't help but feel a tad disappointed that Scorpina made it in. There are still multiple seasons that don't have even a single representative, but instead of any of them, they spring for... an obscure minor villain from the first season that hardly anyone even remembers?

On brighter news though, Dino Fury looks sick, and I like that the trailer referenced Mighty Morphin and Dino Thunder. If the Hasbro era is marked by more frequent references to past seasons, then I certainly won't be complaining.

I figure it's mostly cause Scorpina was in Green With Evil

Also reminds me of how the people doing the early merch back in MMPR ended up putting Dora Sphinx on a bunch of it cause I guess they thought he was important for some reason

RJ and Lauren are such solid picks that I'm mostly just kinda "okay, sure, whatever" about the third character being another from MMPR. It was just really funny that they tried to do the whole "oooh, so mysterious" thing when the minute everyone saw the silhouette we knew it was Scorpina

King Sphinx was always treated as a "tough" villain, I guess because he was the first in a number of episodes where Jason was entirely on his own. Likewise, Goldar's reputation was raised by that episode where he was stabbing in the mists trying to find Jason, and there was also Lizzinator but uhhhh let's not talk about that one. If you were a member of the fan club or went to the live show or something, they'd inevitably be like "hey Power Rangers, what was the closest call you've ever had" and ASJ would be like "uhhh there was that time when Goldar was stabbing the floor randomly instead of walking around until he tripped over me, and I survived by the skin of my teeth."

To be more specific, the show wasn't certain it wouldn't be syndication fodder in two years, so focusing on Sphinx and a few other early monsters like Nasty Knight and Eye Guy made sense.

Shame he didn't get to be a multi episode villain like his Sentai counterpart(and on a similar note how they split Dora/Zombie/Satan Frankie into two monsters)

I dunno, I feel like even though Scorpina didn't appear all that much, people still knew who she was and remembered her because not only was she in the Green Ranger "mini-series" episode that Fox Kids hyped up to the roof, but she was a new villain that also bodied the Power Rangers at first. And it was also the first major indicator that something was... "off" even to kids back then in terms of realizing it was sentai footage.

Yep. I definitely remember thinking she was cuter than the Rangers girls when she premiered.

She was kind of a Boba Fett? Heavy hitter who just kind of disappeared without much plot development.

Speaking of Scorpina, I've been reading the comic where the inhabitants of Drakkon's world try to hold things together without him, and it's interesting but very edgelord and kind of uncomfortable.

(spoilers follow)

The basic gist is that Slayer-Kim has become the head of what's left of the world, and with the Ranger-Sentries is cleaning out what remains of Drakkon's loyalists. They open up a prison he built (where apparently he found the labor to build the Black Dragonzord) and find their universe's Jason, who was confined in something of an iron-clad suit and locked away. Drakkon made the sentries by taking the power coins and sticking them in a machine that can split their power among many individuals, but none are as strong as the original rangers. Because he he diluted each ranger's powers unto an army, he ensured he was by far the strongest ranger in the world. Jason was thus forced to watch as dudes in red ranger suits commit crimes against humanity.

On top of this we have Scorpina, who unlike all these other characters is actually "our" Scorpina from the normal timeline fans are familiar with, though she's changed her armor quite a bit from the show. Scorpina's motives are questioned a lot, as she previously worked with Drakkon before his capture. You know how people wonder what happened to PR's most famous bad guys in Drakkon's timeline? Scorpina tells Drakkon about Dark Specter, and Drakkon wasn't aware of his existence. Thanks to Scorpina's blabbing about the greater threats of the universe, Drakkon set up a beacon in the prison complex that will, in case he is defeated in Shattered Grid, will alert Dark Specter to Earth's existence as a big "gently caress you" to the world he left behind.

So this universe's Ecliptor (who is a lady) arrives on the planet and begins doing a sort of Silver Surfer-inspired thing of heralding Dark Specter's arrival and starting some kind of summoning ritual. Kim calls the sentries to gear up, which is when the rescued Jason begins complaining that This Isn't How It's Done, you guys need to take your coins out of the machine right now and we need to go back to being the power rangers. Kim tells Jason that this world is now very complicated and that his pining for their days as teenagers isn't going to help things much and I ought to note on top of it, this universe's Billy is still MIA so they're not a complete team. Jason calls Kim a fascist and leaves.

So they try fighting Lady Eclipta, and along the way Scorpina develops a sort of angry villainess crush on Adam, calling back to that one second season episode where she reappeared out of the blue. Ecliptor makes quicks work of Kim, spars with Scorpina a bit (there's a funny bit where Scorpina introducers herself "a big fan"). Adam seems to have a sneak attack planned out but when he comes to strike, all the sentries armor disappears, and he is killed quickly. Everyone has to retreat, Scorpina is distraught and having conversations with an Adam who isn't there, and without the sentries the very Mad Max like population of Earth begins rebelling against the only real authority that exists.

At which point Jason shows up in the red ranger costume, and suggests the world needs the Power Rangers.

Overall this is kind of an uncomfortable storyline to be doing because the Rangers were never meant to be heads of a tribe or state, there's always a sort of implied thing that power rangers do jobs nobody else can do but otherwise stay out of humanity's way, and in this case they're picking up the pieces of a post-apocalyptic world and trying to keep this mutant Earth from gnawing it's own arm off. It seems pretty clear though that Jason is going to end up being As Bad As Drakkon, though he'll do it "because that's how Zordon would have wanted."
