The images I've seen of his Star Wars are terrible but I've enjoyed his art a lot on the Doom series.

Larocca is another guy who has talent but goes lazy. I still think X-Treme X-Men was his best work, and that was a long time ago. Ever since it's just been tracing stuff.

I thought he was awesome on Iron Man until y'all ruined everything by pointing out his tracing

Y'know what? I feel like we can give Cocaine Bear a pass. Part of why tracing is so annoying, on top of the general skeeviness, is how jarring it is to suddenly see actors or models or whatever making the most jarring poses or expressions that don't fit with the tone of the panel. To say nothing of Land's ridiculous porn face. But bear is just...bear. It's a bear. There it is. For me at least I don't feel like I got taken out of the moment or distracted by bear looking like it shouldn't be doing what it's doing.

So I just started reading the new Doctor Doom run and uh, why is his face all jacked up again? I mean the last time I read Doom was during the Infamous Iron Man run and his face was normal there. I guess it has been two-almost-three years since then but jeez.

His face was re-scarred by... someone and for, um, reasons at the end of Infamous Iron Man. The Hood maybe? I don't remember but it was incredibly loving shoe-horned in as a way to reset the status quo. A garbage, loving garbage ending to a good series.

After the wet fart that was his X-Men I thought Bendis was doing great stuff with Iron Man and Doom. Kinda wish he'd stuck around for more.

His Iron Man was pretty great. I liked how it started but the end was a little bit of a rushed mess.

I just looked it up and it's the Hood being possessed by a demon, hulking out and grabbing Doom's face and frying it. And they don't even name the loving demon or show how Doom survives it or how he kills the demon or anything, he just shows up back in Latveria with his face hosed up. And even then it doesn't give any reason for why he decided to revert to his old personality instead of keep being a hero besides "well I mean Tony's back now, we don't need two Iron Men". Man that story was so lazy, truly a great (read: awful) example of back-to-status-quo writing. TwoPair fucked around with this message at 05:28 on Sep 29, 2020 |

Replacing Tony with Victor and Riri was so much fun, and they just kind of squandered it in the long run.

doom will always go back to the old status quo because classic doom is just too good to give up for long. but hey, while none of his many face turns stuck, neither did his magic human leather armor.

I didn't love how Fraction had Doom get quatra-owned in his Future Foundation run, but it woulda been nice if they stuck to the judgement the living tribunal had laid down where only his evil actions could scar his face. I guess that probably got superseded once the tribunal died and then infinity wars happened.

Based on how little X-Factor is in the new issue, my subscribers who don't want all the parts of X of Swords are going to be pissed. I have a lot of guys on the fence about the whole thing and this will certainly push them one way or the other. Pretty good as someone who loves the X-Men but if you are not a rabid Xman guy like me you pretty much have to stop reading all the series. No reason this isn't just a 24 issue event book. Now people who only read one or two X-titles might drop their books permanently.

I don't really give hoots about Moon Knight but is this...like, is anyone actually enjoying this Avengers arc? It feels like the most generic sort of hero-turns-villain tripe that there can be. "No one else understands me! I'm the only one who knows what it takes to protect us!" Blah blah greater stakes, yada yada big huge evil whatever, yes I understand the character is mentally ill, thank you Jason Aaron. Thank you for this riveting narration. That said, the adventures of Tony and Carol plus Starbrand baby has been surprisingly fun.

I like it, but then again I'm a total mark for basically anything Moon Knight. I think the only real problem I have is Khonshu manifesting physically and having a bunch of followers besides MK. Like the Lemire run ended with him trying to take over Marc's body and getting stopped but now I guess he never needed that and could just pop out whenever? Mike del Mundo hasn't done a ton of interior artwork, his main runs are most of the 2014 Elektra series, the two Weirdworld runs (one part of Secret Wars, the other right afterwards), issues 1-6 and 9-11 of Mark Waid's 2016 Avengers run (after All-New All-Different Avengers, before the current Jason Aaron run), and the first four issues of Jason Aaron's last "Thor" series. I first noticed him when he was doing covers for the X-Men Legacy (Legion) run, he is in fact pretty great.
