It was this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32833677894.html in grey, EF nib (non-hooded)

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33021102818.html in rosewood, hooded nib - was also nice to write with but feels cheap as hell. I don't know what the body is made of, nothing approaching wood or even wood-adjacent.

No idea. But amazon US ships to Germany, so the opposite is probably true. Though that burner is the kind of thing that you can get for a tenth of the price on aliexpress.

Silicone is good up to around 230⁰C, I don't think you are going far beyond boiling water to melt most candle wax.

Edit: dunno why I read that as candles.... Candies definitely would be fine, sugar work doesn't go that hot

MrUnderbridge
Jun 25, 2011

If they're silicone they should be able to handle up to 450 - 500 degrees (F). Hot wax wouldn't shouldn't be any problem.*

I've used silicon molds for white metal with no issues.

I bought a cheap $18-20 9v practice amp for my kid off eBay and it sounds surprisingly decent and I expected garbage.

You mean the braid? That's hosed up. I order from some foreign component store (along with components) and it's not 70 cents but it's not 7 euros either. That's half the price of my soldering iron :)

e: What the gently caress I went and checked (it was Transfer Multisort Elektronik) and yeah it totally can cost 7€ a roll. I'm sure I didn't pay that much but then I rarely desolder anything so I guess it was actually like ten years ago I last bought some.

Yeah, and Aliexpress won't sort "price plus shipping" anymore, it's getting pretty poo poo tbh and I've dropped from several purchases a day to maybe a couple a month because the experience is so bad

I've gotten annoyed many times because of this One Trick the sellers have latched on, which is to add a varient which is a cheaper component, to show a cheap price on the listing.

e.g. you look at a series of listings and one looks much cheaper than the rest, so you check it out only to discover that one of the varients is a small bag for the item and they use this price to draw you in

e.g. "Holy heck, what a deal!"

Check the listing...oh, that 'colour' is out of stock.

Mopsy, I'm starting to question your medical credentials.

Ebay sellers have been pulling the same poo poo with one $0.01 variant for years. It would be easy to fix by forcing sort by price to utilize the highest price variant in the listing, but no one's implemented it because they have no reason to disincentivize the practice.

What I realized about Ebay after I engaged in selling something on it, is that every aspect of it is a scam. You as the end purchaser can get some deals, but sellers are beholden to Paypal and all sorts of cuts that Ebay gets for their service...meanwhile they'll happily put up scam auctions and bait and switch bullshit because as long as their paying the percentage, gently caress the end customer.

There's definitely been an uptick in this - every webcam on Ali manages to list a variant that's always the same cheap 720p budget webcam, just thrown in to bring the price down. There's also an increasing number of widgets that are "ONLY $5!!! (*$15 postage)", with the vendor clearly making their markup on the mail.

Or they are all the same thing but one is cheaper...

but you buy the cheaper one and they'll say there is a problem, they offer a refund via Paypal, you say no, find out they fake numbered you and eventually you get refund (of $0.01 because you used a coupon).
