I mean it's always possible the Ranger still pull some trades or some other poo poo and Johnson is more of a 7D type but still pretty fuckin' pointless e: like if I'm not mistaken one of his downsides is that he's constantly loving up in terms of pinching, stepping up, hanging his partner out to dry, and if you're gonna pair him with someone like DeAngelo then that's gonna play directly into both of their weaknesses

find me another hockey defenseman with the same name as a vaguely famous acoustic soft rock musician who also makes 0 dollars no matter how much you pay him because of a bankruptcy settlement, i'll be waiting

Pray he breaks a leg.

Why did Justin Schultz cost that much? I mean if he returns to form it's fine but that's a huge gamble.

I just saw the Jack Johnson news, surely, SURELY we can find someone better to stick in there. Like Libor Hajek wasn’t that bad during the brief time he wasn’t injured.

Jim Benning's insistence on signing Tyler Myers last summer because he was tall directly cost us out 3rd best player. They signed for the same amount. Glad Benning just couldn't stop having heart palpatations about how good Myers looked when he scouted him back in 2010.

Let me know if they find anything worthwhile. tarbrush posted:Like, goalie voodoo issues aside it doesn't seem that awful? I thought it was going to be a 7x7 monstrosity Well he'll be in the top 10 highest paid goalies for probably most of the next 6 years and he's had one good season ever (in which he started 43 games).

Markstrom was sensational behind some really awful Canucks teams. His boxcars don't do him justice because the team in front of him was so awful. By pretty much every newer metric he was one of the top 2 or 3 goalies in the league over the past 3 seasons and that meshes with what Canucks fans saw. He beat Pettersson for team MVP twice for a reason.

tarbrush posted:Like, goalie voodoo issues aside it doesn't seem that awful? I thought it was going to be a 7x7 monstrosity He's 30 and has has one good season (which was his contract year) after being just ok for a while. He could be good for a while or he could turn into a potato next year. It's a pretty decent gamble by Calgary. Teams really shouldn't be giving both money and term any longer to goalies. They run a risk of falling off really fast and unlike other positions you don't have bottom lines to bury them on. If they go bad the contract sits on your cap like a terrible boat anchor and you can't do poo poo about it. edit: ThinkTank posted:Markstrom was sensational behind some really awful Canucks teams. Maybe he was better than I thought but he's still on the wrong side of thirty now and the risk of a decline is going to increase substantially with every year
