Kawalimus posted:What can the Capitals expect from Lundqvist? Is he cooked or can they get a good season or two out of him? Like ppl have said the Rangers fielded a real bad defense core in front of him. He got left out to dry a lot. Granted he is not what he used to be but I could see him having success in a better system. Good chance he rebounds as a solid 1b. But goalies are voodoo and there is a chance he’s out of gas....give his track record and how incredibly competitive he is, I wouldn’t bet against him.

Aside from just trying to piss me off, what is the point of this? He's 29, he's not good, he doesn't have some Senators higher cap hit than salary contract, and it costs a mid-round pick from a rebuilding team. He just takes away a roster spot. Even if you just ignore his DV charge I really don't see what getting him is supposed to accomplish.

3x2?? I would have made that deal if I was NYR....disappointing.. Fast is not irreplaceable and not a guy to give a ton of money too but 2mil AAV is really good value for someone that is as dependable and responsible as he is. Can really play in all situations, a guy coaches will love and players will love too every time he bails them out with a great backcheck. Will miss him on NYR for sure. I have the rough outline of a theory that they didn't sign Fast because they knew they weren't going to use an expansion protection spot on him, and with their strategy for expansion being basically to only expose players they signed yesterday, Fast definitely would have been picked for Seattle and they didn't want to do that to him. For my next trick, I will come up with a convoluted reason for why signing Jack Johnson was actually good

I think BSB or Shayna pointed out on twitter that the Rangers would have to pay more due to taxes so it would t have been as low here. Makes sense. This still stinks,I like Fast. Cherish him Carolina, dude is all heart and a Swiss Army knife.

I still remember when Vegas expansion came around, they basically had to choose between Fast or Lindberg. Probably would be celebrating their third Cup if they had picked Fast

After the last expansion draft I’m not willing to say for sure Seattle would take Fast.... Vegas took a lot of strange picks...

Not sure about moneypuck but Natural Stat Trick and Evolving Hockey have him as a better than average goalie in terms of goals saved above expected last year and over the past 3 years, and I also think Micah’s model on Hockeyviz has him above average as well (though I’m not a patreon subscriber so I can’t confirm this one).

Aye Doc posted:it owns that the canucks mucked things up so badly their primary target is now their own 7D from last year, who they are going to be hoping to sign to be their 5D. good job jim If the Canucks missed out on a bunch of players because they had decided that free agent frenzy was a bad way to build a team (looking at the last few years of free agent spurges, a fairly rational viewpoint) I’d be ok with it. However instead they missed out because they were too busy going after blockbuster deals (OEL) with contracts that make Myers look cheap, or players they don’t really need (Barrie - already have a PP QB). Because of the cap mess they thankfully couldn’t land them, but really what a mess. How do you have a team that is capped out when your best two players are on entry level deals... Is there any other team where half a dozen guys wouldn’t get claimed if waived?

I'm perfectly fine with the Canucks not signing Tanev or Markstrom given the deals they got. I'm also perfectly fine with the Holtby signing given the short contract, reasonable price, and no NMC. I wish they'd have tried harder to sign Stecher, but it's not the end of the world and there are kids that will push for his spot. The Canucks desperately need another top-4 D, though, and Vancouver is rapidly being priced out of the market for the remaining UFAs. I guess what I'm saying is that this off-season has been okay, it's the lovely contracts from previous off-seasons that are the problem.
