i would say, very broadly, there are three main things the american left is interested in -

* national single payer health care
* immediate action on climate change
* strong workers rights

none of those require the "abolishment of capitalism"

Eliminate and prosecute police brutality and uterus harvesters is also on that list.

"Make the police follow the law" seems a bit too radical though, maybe try "police is only allowed to murder you if nobody can see them planting evidence" first???

Were you really going to accomplish anything by arguing the point?

You can just assume people understand this would more or less quiet down with equal application of the law, respect of human rights by the government and a ban on profiteering on things that are essential to survival or participation in society. Anyone who doesn't understand that is either arguing in bad faith or too far gone to be amenable to any argument.

Sure, there's a lot of arguments about things to fight for, but as long as people can have faith in a better tomorrow where they won't starve for getting sick, those fights will be done mostly with the ballot box.

But the "left-wing" option is "we'll keep fracking until we've bled the world dry" so guess that's not in the cards.

if we don't, they will continue to move right. over and over and over again. they have proven this with their track record.

There is a difference between "wanting donald trump to be president for another term" and "realizing that biden's admin will crush the wonderful growth of the leftist movement we've seen in the past three years, and will put us in an objectively worse position in 2020 and 2022"

people really are not cognizant of the absolute horrorshow we have coming up in four years. Competent fascists are way, way more terrifying than the incompetent ones we have today.

I recognize that it's fundamentally an accelerationist take, based on the premise that we can strengthen the left and make it a real option in the next four years if we have trump term 2. I don't have an easy or happy rebuttal to that. i guess so.

trump is the visible symptoms of an illness just before treatment is impossible

however, trump is the symptom of people like biden: a slow growing malignant tumor that has been destroying things from inside over decades. so much legislation that has lead to the current hellworld in the us has his name on it in some fashion

fwiw i don't necessarily think a president biden spells the doom of the left or w/e, no more than i think that another 4 years for our wet rear end president ensures the destruction of the DNC and a takeover by leftists.

There's various takes on it, that's fine and I don't discount your position. I still think four years of biden will be a Great Undoing. in 2023 under biden, BLM will be a thing for history class, not current events.

And I would argue the biggest thing that drew support to Bernie wasn't the belief he would snap his fingers and get it all done, but a belief that he would spend every waking moment for 4 years trying to accomplish these things like he said he wanted to. Probably the only thing he may have been able to pull off is some vague emissions poo poo targeting 2035 and sneak in a few laws to attempt to loosen the boot off the neck of unions.

thats all a huge amount of people want. someone who will stand by their promise to fight for the working man after they're elected.

there were socialists in weimar germany who also believed the incompetent fascists were better to leave in charge so that the communists could get their turn. it ended Badly, as we all know.

This is really important and I want to quote for emphasis. This poo poo started in '68 (I mean, really, 400 years before that, but let's start here) and it took them two generations to get it chiseled into the cornerstones. Now we gotta figure out how to undo that.

What are your thoughts on Howie Hawkins? He has the SPUSA nomination as well as the green party and seems like a good guy, but I haven't done a ton of research.

Washington is also solidly blue, so it'd be a safe vote for a candidate I genuinely believe in.
