it is an unironic goal of mine to secure enough credit/rep with the machine that runs this country that I can buy six acres of PNW forested land, build cabins and a mess hall and a couple of workshops for Trades so that 10-30 people can live on the property I paid for and advance their skills and help me weed the "tomatoes" and pitch in with cooking and have a warm bunk and a yard and a couple farm dogs to play with absolutely free. I want to leverage every bit of my success towards building a communalist outpost in the pines. i am not joking or pisstaking on this, that is my actual life goal. I want a $10,000 metalworking lathe, but I cannot justify it with only 3 hours a week of use. That's why I want ten friends to move in with me that want to use the lathe.

i dont know how to even begin building class consciousness in america. folks get so angry at even the idea of organizing, saying poo poo like "well what if it becomes a bad union". fighting this disinformation will be a generational struggle.

what I think is so odd is that the concept of health insurance is so deeply ingrained in the american psyche that people think universal health care means that everyone gets “free” health insurance from the govt or something

rather than just not needing health insurance at all because most poo poo just has no charge

well over here anyway hospital poo poo is free. not parking tho. drugs are cheap and general practitioners are not heinously expensive

health insurance still exists tho because you may want to choose to pay for better service, better rooms etc. boob jobs. shorter wait lists

i have health insurance and honestly i should ditch it once i get my wisdom teeth (i call em whizzers for short) out

still even better would be if i died

Fair enough, I'm being a bit too harsh here. I'm mostly mad about this form of wishful thinking I see all the time where people don't want to believe that coalitions necessarily include people who disagree on major things.

Politics is a multiheaded beast.

For what it's worth I've found that encouraging people to talk pay with coworkers is both 1) legally protected, 2) not commonly done due to outdated ideas, taboos, and misinformation, 3) of clear immediate benefit, and 4) a potential step to further organization if needed

Like even your most anti-union ideologue coworker will want to hear how much everyone else in their position is making

I've always loved the idea of building a close-by community. One where "visiting my friends" wasn't a whole ordeal to spend a day on but something that just happened because they were always right there. One where it makes sense to have a bunch of things that people might only occasionally use, like a giant kitchen full of weird niche gadgets.

Right now the best I can do is get a large house and fill it with roommate friends. It's been a true blessing during quarantine to have regular "family" dinners that way.

that's why it's so important to remain focused on a common goal. we need to organize, we need to replace our collapsing government with an actually representative one, and we need to stop letting rich people just loot whatever the gently caress they want unimpeded

early voting starts tomorrow here and i’ll be voting for him

not because i like him but because the shift in the
republican party over the last 20 years since my first vote in 2000 has been insane and i’d like to see this garbage state cast its electoral votes against the idiot republicans in my lifetime.

my mom has been a democrat since clinton in 1992 but i had a good talk recently with my dad, who is really a small c pro business conservative, and who i know voted for bush in 2000, told me on our Saturday family zoom call that he thought republicans have lost it, biden was boring and he wished he got to vote for bernie and watch bernie debate trump. he’s also insisting on going in person for early voting because he thinks they’ll throw out his ballot for biden if he mails it in even though he can legally vote by mail in T*xas because he’s over 65.

its a loving weird time to be alive.
