Protect is probably not the right term (too strong/inaccurate), but I’m can’t think of one that’s better. Others (and this is more my opinion) did it thinking they could be a new Dick Cheney. Others like Chao is the rather unique and interesting mix of prior competence and Mitch.

Sure, California didn't submit cost figures in their application (not sure if that's a requirement), but Donnie might have held out, demanding a call from Governor Newsom. It's hosed in about three different ways, we just don't know which of the six possible ways it actually was hosed by.

Nothing is a surprise anymore from the candidate who gave millions of people $1,200 checks but, in his mind, was doing so in the hopes that the recipients would return the favor in November.

The trouble is you have to figure out the way out of this mess: - Pelosi wants state/local aid, plus COVID testing money for a national strategy. - Trump wants his name on checks and literally nothing else, but doesn't understand Congress (he sent Meadows to negotiate, and he's a Tea Party dealkiller). Acknowledging the need for testing/state/local aid means COVID is a problem and FAKE NEWS. - McConnell wants business money and nothing else. - Senate Republicans are ready to hammer the austerity button if/when Biden gets elected to torpedo his presidency That's why Donnie keeps flailing from NO DEAL to BIGLY DEAL to PELOSI IS STOPPING THE BIGGLIEST DEAL. Pelosi is dealing with Mnuchin, Mnuchin has no room to move, and McConnell is just standing by to say "lol we're not doing that".

It is currently deeply amusing to me that Kelly Loeffler and Doug Collins are currently stabbing the gently caress out of each other over a US Senate seat, each claiming loudly to be more conservative than the other, meanwhile their Democrat challenger has 47% of the vote to the roughly 20% they each hold. Spoiler candidates own, especially when they can wind up causing Georgia to elect Democratic senators.

Unfortunately there's no spoiler in this case unless Warnock can clench another few percentage points. If he fails to cross a majority of votes(not a plurality), it goes down to the highest voted Conservative vs Warnock in January. I doubt that the candidates running to the right are gonna turn off Republicans enough in January to get them to not vote whoever, but I could hopefully be wrong. Edit: Thinking about it, there technically is a potential spoiler, it's just if Warnock clinches 47% and the combination of any other D candidate takes 3%, it will go to a run off. I’m not really sure I buy it, though, and I’d rather see Democrats fight than just throw up their hands and say “not our problem lol.” Pelosi is supposed to be the leader of the opposition party and she can’t even handle a TV interview without falling apart. At most, you'll see Kudlow go on TV saying WE HAVE A DEAL right before the market closes, which turns out to be bullshit every time.
