It's remarkable how unlucky his team has been in this election, and how poorly they've managed to play the cards they've been dealt. Biden's been running a pretty lousy campaign, all things equal, but Trump sees every bad move Biden makes and says, "You call that stupid? I'll show you stupid!" What he's saying is supposed to be a justification and a subtle, "bless his heart" deniable dig at Hunter:

"Look, he is so sketchy that we have published all this rock solid evidence that is completely tied to Joe Biden, but there are also a lot of other accusations against Hunter, and out of the goodness of our heart we aren't going to broadcast them. He's a hosed up broken dude and you should totally judge him for it, but we are very kind people who won't give details. Instead, we'll let you, the viewer, fill in the specifics."

Honestly what I take away from the Greenwald thing is it's terrifying how easy it is to make people fall into the propaganda hole. A lot of us assume we're too aware/too smart for it to work on us and it seems to be a short path from there down to conspiracytown because if you assume it doesn't work on you then what you're seeing must be real/accurate.

It's honestly pretty terrifying to realize how easy it is to manipulate people by pointing at something they feel in their gut. It also makes me genuinely scared that I'm falling into similar traps and straight up not realizing it. Thankfully most of the things I feel like I believe in are things I can assume are verifiable truth but god knows that depending on how the election goes my brain is going to be super vulnerable to conspiracy theories considering all the verifiable fuckery going on.

Yeah, the campaign has been somewhere between underwhelming and alienating for the left, but we can't say it hasn't been solid because all the metrics that matter are there, and he hasn't had any notable fuckups. Could he have done literally anything and won because he's the Not Trump? Would appealing to the left make the numbers even better? Maybe, maybe not, but we know this way is working.
