I got a box from relatives this year with cheese and egg yolks and I had to fake the photographs of taking a bite using a substitute mooncake from another box.

I want to see if there’s any correlation between people who claim Asian sweets (eg: ones with redbean paste) aren’t sweet enough, and people who’ve had their entire concept of sweetness destroyed by eating/drinking corn syrup products their entire lives

I like that mooncakes aren't too sweet but they're way too... heavy. A red bean bun is nice though.

I thought I liked mooncakes, but my wife tells me I was thinking of wife cakes.

I do like things with red bean paste in them, though, and I'm a big ol' Westerner who's been drinking cola and eating sugary cereal his whole life.

What? No. Stop trying to get out of eating your fair share of this garbage national food.

¡Hola SEA!

My kids and wife really like both lotus and red bean mooncakes. I’m not a huge on them, kind of heavy for my taste but I do like red bean/adzuki desserts in general.

You can get little one serving size ones. Even in the US they’re common in East Asian specialty grocers

My Chinese friend gave me a moon cake from Yauatcha, this Asian patisserie here in London, and it was amazing. Light and eggy and custardy inside, not too sweet, but so good.

They’re amazing, especially with some kind of brandy sauce/custard or any other boozy sauce

Fair enough, although if anyone gets one of those traditional sized mooncakes that are meant to be shared, uhhhh just be aware if you eat the whole thing this is the amount of calories you are taking in

Nah! A little chocolate will do

what the gently caress are mooncakes?

I thought red bean was a weird thing to make a sweet out of, until I had a red bean paste bun and found them to be awesome, way better than most sweets that are the norm in NA

The diet plans of an entire generation of Asians was ruined by people sharing articles about how bread is bad for them, not knowing those are usually based on research from America where people are confused if bread is not sweet.

I uhhh wouldn’t try to claim American bread is sweet when talking to someone from East Asia. What they call bread in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and China are more like cakes in terms of sweetness.

That art style is very interesting. A not quite crayon/sketch look. I like it.
I don't think it's for me though.

A friend has tasked me with finding a VPN so he can watch that furry Filipino movie on his Netflix. All I've found is that it's not a good movie according to actual Filipinos.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Philippines/comments/jkbpsf/folks_dont_watch_hayop_ka_its_just_not_good/

quote:

Folks, don’t watch Hayop Ka. It’s just not good.

never mind its DDS pedigree. this movie is classist, misogynistic, and moralist all in one — the trifecta of bad Filipino habits.

every character in the movie is terrible, save the frog, with no one to root for.

what even is the point that the filmmakers were trying to make?

you want to support pinoy cinema? you want to watch a romcom? go watch Para Sa Broken Hearted instead.

Others online seem to like it though? I dunno.

It's going to be a real monkey's paw situation for me if in the future more adult-orientated animated movies are made, but only because they know there is a profitable furry market to be captured.

That one looks like it might be okay though. It might be a borderline case but I still differentiate between 'has anthropomorphic animal characters' and 'furry'.

This looks like it'll be full of good visual gags. I laughed at a couple things in the trailer. But reviews say it doesn't have much beyond that.

What countries is it available in?

Not sure, it’s not in Aus either but maybe it’s available in a lot of south east Asia

I’m gonna mess around with VPN this weekend to try to find it, or otherwise see if I can get it by..... other means
