The Trill are a cool concept and Dax is pretty good but I haven't really liked any of her centric episodes yet; I'm just into season 4

Hate to say it, but the one where she talks to all of her personalities is the best, and you've probably already seen it. The one where she meets her old wife is good, but it's lost its impact in the last 15 or so years.

This displeases Dev- ..van. Shut up.
Jadzia is sort of a sarcastic jerk and it was funny that she marries Worf and bases their relationship on bemusedly thinking he’s childish and enjoying how good their bdsm battle sex is.

Dax might be described as a really great character who doesn't really get a lot of good episodes to herself.

They do a really bad job of developing her, like you could replace her character with miles, kira, or odo in 90% of episodes and you wouldn't notice a difference. She has a couple of cool episodes that involve her past hosts.

Her character basically becomes a party animal after she marries Worf.

Ironically the most development she gets after s4 is in the ep where sisko is a sci-fi writer

The best Jadzia episode is the one where she and Worf go to Risa and she's like "let's have sex" and he's like "no I'd rather join a fascist cult"

Actually now that I think about it, the ep where she goes to the planet that only shows up for like a week every handful of years is also very good

Worf is such an rear end in a top hat in DS9, he might be the worst character in the show. There is one episode where his neglected son arrives, worf acts like an rear end in a top hat to him, and then is completely baffled why his son hates him.

Funniest thing in DS9 is that it turns out Worf is scared of Sisko.

theres an episode where jadzia starts melting down because theres a secret unacknowledged serial killer past life in her trill and eventually they figure out the reason why is because the entire convoluted process by which new hosts are chosen is unnecessary because most trill are physically compatible with symbiotes but the people in charge dont want this to be public knowledge because it would literally cause wars if people figured out its not actually a meritocracy

very cspammy I liked the one where ezri uses the serial killer past life to hunt down another serial killer too but more for genre reasons than political ones

to make it even more c-spamy the symbiote minders were most afraid of that reducing the symbiotes to an exploitable commodity

so i just watched support the girls and it was really excellent id gotten the vague impression reading about it years that it was a woke feminism flick but its actually super down to earth getting into the nuts and bolts of how a locally owned family friendly titty sports bar actually functions

its super weird to see the concept of emotional labor so excellently spelled out on screen because im used to idiots on twitter confusing that with getting mad on the internet and the economics of it are great just watching people get exhausted by other people being morons about basic social stuff i especially liked the idiot small business owner going on a petty dumb road rage incident literally right after he was trying to lecture the store manager about how shes not doing enough to keep dumbass twenty year old girls from acting like dumbass twenty year old girls

the main wrinkle i could see is that theres just baaarely enough faith in reforming capitalism that the issues dont come off as systemic the competing mancave franchise is treated so sympathetically i was wondering whether it was real life product placement and then theres the cops although to be fair thats probably like the one context you could ever expect cops to be useful is if someones trying to start trouble at their favorite titty sports bar

Lmao the best part of the episode was that he did it because he hated seeing other people enjoy themselves.

I liked Support the Girls. It's not a socialist movie or anything, but I always like seeing relatively grounded depictions of working class life. Stories like that seem so rare in US cinema, and to a lesser extent TV. Working class people can only be in media that shows their suffering and trauma.

I assume Obama got deployed to boast the film and the director was drafted to make live action adaptations of Disney musicals so that it never happens again. They probably think the director risks becoming American Ken Loach if left to his own devices.

She and bashir were the weakest characters in ds9- dax would've been better as a recurring and bashir.. honestly i'm not sure, making him explicitly gay with garak would probably be better but it still doesn't really give him a whole lot to do. Siddig is a good actor but he just got some poo poo writing.

a pity the people mercing him were team incompetent girlboss who then proceeded to get clowned on by singular slightly less incompetent girlboss

I've noticed that I basically just like both of them as foils for other characters, Dax for Sisko and Kira, Bashir for O'Brien and Garak

Bashir and O'Brien's bromance is the greatest pairing on all of Star Trek and Bashir and Garak's forbidden gay love is the greatest romantic relationship on all of Star Trek and neither of them works without Genetically-Modified Genius Twink Doctor Bashir.

The weird thing is the augment thing for Bashir would've been just fine if it had been there from the beginning. But yeah he's fine as a foil, even Dax is, too.

all that section 9 crap is bs, it's the lure of creating the perfect twink which lures section 69 back to augment technology every time

imo this is why the early Bashir-Dax storylines didn't work and really dragged down the show in the first couple seasons. They do well in pairings with other people, but two foils don't work well together.

I also love the part in season 5 i think where Bashir is a changeling for like 3 or 4 episodes when it is revealed that he and worf and martok are all in Dominion battle prison that is a great episode for worf because he kicks so much rear end until he gets beat so badly that he earns great respect

all this ds9 talk is reminding me of how awful the cast and characters of voyager are, excepting the doctor and janeway

it's like nobody actually cared about voyager from the start and the entire thing was focus grouped, that it began not as an artistic idea but as a business proposition
