Watching Karate Combat on BeIN sports (which apparently is in my tv’s TV Plus app). It’s also on YouTube, too? https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/seahawks/marshawn-lynch-will-provide-color-commentary-karate-combat Rutten is fine, Callen is annoying, Marshawn is quiet but has some goofy energy to match the incredibly fake cgi backdrops out of Tekken, which Marshawn pronounces Taken, it turns out. I think he was comparing a dropping spin kick to King’s moves. The rules prohibit elbows and knees but allow takedowns and 5s of striking on the ground, which I like. It matches the vibe those karate one knockdown demonstrations that end with a punch to the downed fighter. And I just saw a fight ended where the ground punch KOed the guy, where a 10 count would have saved him. Two more notes about Karate Combat: - they're being even cagier than the UFC about where they're producing it, just completely not acknowledging COVID. The official stance is that "it's in space" - Bas Rutten is billed as 6'1", and both Callen and Beastmode are 5'11", but Marshawn comes off looking much bigger:  He is standing a bit closer to the camera (both he and Bas can touch that table in front of them, but Marshawn is like leaning on it), but it doesn't feel like that'd be enough. Maybe he's wearing huge sneakers and the other two are in dressier shoes.

Holy poo poo. These Pride streams are a gift. I had never encountered Olaf Alfonso before, but his pre-fight promo he claimed to have not trained or lifted weights in six years and only meditate and visualize fights and claimed a bunch of knife and bullet wounds from "Working for the military"... So yeah Sakurai flatlined him in less than two minutes. That's the kind of fighter I love to see get wrecked over and over. They're just awful and try to give themselves some air of mystique by saying weird poo poo. Exquisite.
