I like to think about how cool the battle music is while reading the "help i keep accidently loving men" reddit post.
I'd like to petition to put an NPC who says this in the DLC please

Maybe just a pantless NPC who is like "gently caress not again" when he's thrown out of the club after freshly loving some guy

On a tangentially related note, I really did not expect this game to have the level of writing it does at points.

In particular (early act 2 spoilers) The conversation at clouds with your doll is incredible if you let it play out.

The calm, measured tone of the doll, the vulnerability in fem V's voice and the general intimacy of the moment was unexpected.

It is very rare to have a game get me that invested in a scene, but the conversation about V's death, and how seriously it hosed her up is an amazing moment of character direction. Confronting a character who burns bright and dies young with the reality of what that actually meant in practice, how it shook her resolve and fundamental world view was loving incredible.

And then after all that you have to use the safe word and you are shocked out of this intimate moment by bright lights and a doll who is freaked the hell out. The whiplash of it was palpable.

And that isn't even the only story beat that shook me. You confront the father/son BD snuff film editors and the game really nailed the revulsion for me. You get what you are looking for, but the way they are written makes it hard not to want to hurt them, even though you might be conflicted.

Then the dad starts screaming after you shoot his son. Actually felt bad until I went on the laptop and found even more evidence of how hosed the pair was.

Just very solid writing at certain points is what I'm saying.

I just wanted to say that the whole quest line with Evelyn and Judy has been fantastic so far, and for all of the poo poo this game has been catching, the way it’s been handling sex work and intimacy in the setting - in which sex is forwarded as commodified and ultimately shallow - has been really interesting.

Like I know people have been dunking on how “horny” the game is and the dildos everywhere but so far all of the sex workers I’ve interacted with have been fairly complex characters. The scene you’re describing with the “doll” definitely doesn’t go the way you’d expect it to, and it’s really notable that the only time the characters in the scene make physical contact, it’s a touch of reassurance.

It all goes along with the writers, at least at this early point, making the choice to essentially have V be a fundamentally decent person making their way in an often lovely environment. I’m struggling to think of a time that the game has offered the choice to be cruel or lovely to someone who didn’t arguably deserve it. Is there really a way to do an “evil V”?

Ask me about the shitty opinions I have about Paradox games!
The PC UI is so loving poo poo. Mousewheeling through conversations, escape twice to leave the map, middle click (???) to take off items, just loads of annoying bits that I don't get.

Also my funniest (weirdest) bug so far was a gig where I had to kill someone and carry them for a bit then put them in the boot of a car. Maybe....two hours later I'm walking along and their body is just lying in the street with a huge queue of cars behind it. It was loving bizarre!

That Japanese surgeon guy is straight up a joke from the TV show scrubs too, really weird to have a reference to that. Not as weird as that guy changing his voice, but weird anyway.

I’m sorry but this game is no Deus Ex, it’s better than the lovely Deus Ex sequels but no one will be talking about this game in 20 years. It’s a solid, but unimaginative FPS. The only way this game is on the status of revolutionary as Deus Ex was/is is if it was released in 96, and outside of graphics it could have been. AI is Goldeneye level, gameplay is shoot or be shot, and the writing is sophomoric and sometimes actively harmful (the racist statistic joke about the cars).

I'm not sure if that's what you're picking up, but I think most people comparing it to Deus Ex are doing it because the shooting, hacking and sneaking gameplay (and the bad enemy AI) brings to mind how those elements worked in Deus Ex Human Revolution. At least that's how I'm thinking of that comparison when I describe it as a mix of Deus Ex and GTA, which I really think this game is.

Beyond the general cyberpunk aesthetic and human augmentation stuff, there really isn't much that's similar between the two apart from the aforementioned gameplay of DEHR and this.

I have 32GB of RAM. While running the game, with two utility VMs in memory, a host of other background applications, there's still 17GB of free RAM right now. Certainly RAM ain't the reason why it has to keep culling NPCs and cars and such.

Apparently one disables the cpuid check (EB) and the other inverts it, negatively impacts Intel CPUs (74). Either results in the game working better for AMD CPUs, but the first is the proper way to do it according to this post.

It’s a 6/10 game that was hyped to be a masterpiece before it’s release so people have attached their identities to it being good. It’s an ok game, fun for some people but it’s not a genre defining classic like Deus Ex and to compare the two is insanity to me.

game is flawed, mostly the open world part of it but no

night city itself is fantastic, main quests are well written and acted imho, you have a ton of side missions that basically play out like mini deus ex levels and some of those side gig missions can even influence/give you choices in the main quests

I did this on my Ryzen 2700x and while it didn't really improve the overall framerate, it did seem to improve the lows somewhat in outdoor scenes and increase CPU usage across all cores. It also made my CPU run significantly hotter, like into the mid-70s, so be warned if you don't have a good cooling solution I guess.
