Pretty much every non-modern historical figure is in such a wildly foreign context I don't see the pupose in getting angry at them. I mean you could call for all royalty to be retroactively put to death but it's not as though blood aristocracy or monarchism are actually relevant threats anymore. Is it just because the proto socialism of the French revolution is close to home? I don't think I could enjoy history if I thought every Roman above poverty level deserved to die because they were a slave owner, every emperor was to be despised because they inherited a brutal empire, erc

Skwirl posted:Don't they have a loving thing where you can buy a house and still have to pay rent to someone? Ground rent? My grandmother ended up buying a strip of land at the end of our garden that belonged to an Earl, whose decendants still own a good bit of land in and around our town. The rent payable on it was pretty tiny I think, but naturally she wanted to actually own the whole of the property outright. edit: I ran into his wife once, when I was working in a local bookshop - tiny old lady completely encased in green tweeds. Only reason I knew who she was was because she had "Countess of X" on her credit card, which seemed a tad tacky to me. Pookah has a new favorite as of 11:42 on Dec 13, 2020 |

Like, if she'd been very young, it'd be more understandable as being something of a novelty, but this woman was well into her eighties - you'd really think the thrill of it would have worn off by that stage.

The accents are so bad that Jamie Dornan, an actual irish actor, forgets how to sound irish.
