CDs cost 50 cents to make, the artist got a buck and Record Companies got 10 which made it real easy to justify stealing "a song". The whole thing was still a scam in some ways but it was probably better than now where everyone can self record at home and self publish and make no money.

Anyone watch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on HBO? Trent thanks nearly every touring member of NIN (all the major ones at least) and says "The journey is far from over if I have any say in it. So let’s stop loving around, patting ourselves on the back, and get to it."

Stumbled across this article about Soul which has a few brief, but informative quotes from everyone involved with the score. https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/soul-how-nine-inch-nails-scored-pixar-movie/ The main new piece of information is that even though the score started off being pretty segmented, with Jon Batiste doing the jazz bits and Reznor/Ross doing the more "score" stuff, eventually they started to really collaborate. In other words, we're getting more NINjazz.

Why didn't you call me?" "Last time I called you we ended up with Starfuckers, Charlie" "And now you've got your arms that flip, flop, flip, flop, flip...." *click* "SOMETHING'S GONNA GET BROKEN" But no in the AMA it sounds like Clouser and Reznor are still friends and respect each other which is cool. Was nice seeing Trent mention Aaron North during his HoF speech as well. I know he had a lot of troubles with his health and who knows where he is or how he is right now but I hope he saw that.

Mank is on Netflix and the score is on Spotify. https://open.spotify.com/album/4bF6HoSA0B7FbkY1z8uTq5?si=9u1bMdF4RneYxaRYjKHPOA quote:... the Reznor/Ross Mank score is steeped in big-band jazz and melodramatic orchestral music. There’s a sense of Hitchcockian suspense to some of the tracks, but you shouldn’t expect any ominous synth-tones or electronic tick-tock percussion. Instead, a lot of this sounds like Count Basie. The Mank score has 52 tracks, and it lasts 93 minutes. If you like, you can hear the whole thing below.

https://twitter.com/consequence/status/1339798806343405570 Links to Spotify/Apple Music are in there so you don't have to go searching. This is nice so far! It's very synthy and ethereal sounding. It's a change of pace from their last score (Mank), but then again that was a change of pace from everything else they've done. Well, TR and AR's tracks, I mean. Jon Batiste's are jazzy, but it says so on the album cover.

Geez, is he really pissed off at YouTube Music or something? Mank still hasn't shown up there, and Soul isn't there either. I know it's not the #1 most popular streaming service, but it does get pretty much everything else.

I would bet that Fincher and the Mouse having deadlines prevent Fragile-style multi-year fuckin' around sessions. ...and I have a pet theory that Trent probably takes every opportunity to go into the studio to get away from the kids.

Isn't "the studio" in his house? I swear I remember hearing a while back that was the case but I might be making that up.

It seems like it would be, but in some interviews with him and Atticus, I seem to recall that they were in separate studio rooms that were next to each other, so they were still able to (sorta) work the way they were used to. Though that would be an amazing power move if that was still Casa Reznor and Atticus had to deal with it. I thought there was an interview about the Watchmen soundtrack that Trent said he was happiest in the studio that lead me to believe that he was trying to escape the brood, but I haven't been able to find it again in my idle searches, but it has also shown aside from how much material he has cranked out, he has done a shitload of interviews in addition.

Vince MechMahon posted:Isn't "the studio" in his house? I swear I remember hearing a while back that was the case but I might be making that up. I think so. I vaguely recall a photograph of his kitchen that was related to some NIN recording, I think? It was back when he was really into fitness and there was just fruit everywhere and other healthy food for people to help themselves to and one of the people working on the album just took a photo to show how nice Trent was treating everyone at his place. I'm fairly sure that after the hurricane and his relocation to Los Angeles he decided to have a home studio rather than the situation in New Orleans where he had the studio in the old funeral home or whatever (that apparently had an apartment above?) and then his house somewhere else. During those days he probably slept at the studio so much that he figured it would be wise to incorporate one into wherever he moved to in the future. Robert Facepalmer posted:...and I have a pet theory that Trent probably takes every opportunity to go into the studio to get away from the kids. I think it's more that he's probably completely miserable if he's not working on something and being creative. He's been open about his struggles and writer's block when starting on The Fragile and how he went out to that cabin to kill himself but ended up writing something which started the whole album process and gave him a direction. Then he got completely fixated on fitness and health after the Fragility tour to get over his addictions and since then he just keeps pumping stuff out. I know other musicians said Trent was a really miserable guy back in the 90s so I think this is basically his coping mechanism and that he always wants to be occupied with something. The prospect of getting writer's block again and being sober probably scares the hell out of him. SUNKOS fucked around with this message at 00:35 on Dec 21, 2020 |

Depending on what album cycle that was, the fruit house was likely 2-3 residences ago. There was a house of his on the market in 2015 and a couple years back there was some kind of lawsuit involving the house he was renting that would have been after he got married and had at least a couple kids. I can only imagine how big of a house he would need for five kids, at least one professional-level studio, and storage for enough gear to not be frustrating.
