A poster complaining how their parents have bad politics and wishes they had been in Foster care or an orphanage. Perhaps I misread something?

The foster care/orphanage was in relation to how I used to feel when stuck living with a single abusive parent without being able to see a way out. The "bad politics" is another parent who I only speak to couple times a year as is, and I'd rather not spend that time listening to hateful rants about BLM thugs, Covid conspiracies and gay mafia destroying normal families, so when it started going that direction yet again I just kinda went off on one.

But yeah, should really know better than to post personal stuff on SA. Most of the time I do.

Sell the house, and use the money to rent. Landlords need the money more than you do.

I used to love storms until the previous high gale wind in early December cracked a widow pane in our zero deposit flat. We can’t afford to replace a window pane, not least the bullshit the landlord will tack on.

That shouldn't be your issue as long as you inform your landlord right away, that's why you rent, property maintenance is their problen

The phrase 'zero deposit flat' suggests they are using a scheme that means they don't pay a deposit (as such) but instead a smaller, non refundable upfront (and small annual) fee which makes them more vulnerable to having to cover any damage costs to the property when they leave.

https://www.zerodeposit.com/tenants/

The language there is unclear and I'm not familiar with the scheme, so I have no idea whether theyre liable for completely no fault stuff like weather damage to the landlords property which seems dodgy as all gently caress.

Just seems a bit extreme is all, we all have dreadful family members. My dad is an ex ned and he goes on something dreadful about anything, like Scottish Ian Paisley. I still visit him every Saturday. Sorry if I was judgy, I should know to avoid d&d.

It's more why should they pay for the window when that would be covered under the landlords building management responsibilities. They didn't break it.

This definitely doesn't override any legal obligations about what a landlord must repair. Exteriors and windows etc are always their responsibility

From that site, under the FAQs for landlords it says:

weird deposit website posted:

You are covered for financial loss or damage for which your tenants are liable under your Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement, up to the value of 6 weeks’ rent.

So I agree, unless I guess they've signed up to some weird unenforceable contract that says they are liable for broken windows.
