I'd love to believe that Bernie would have gotten tons of votes if he actually won the primary but honestly I'm not convinced. I still want to believe that Americans would eventually like universal healthcare but people's brains are so poisoned against "socialism" that I think that it would probably take like 10+ years for people to finally accept it. If you just look at SA it seems like Bernie had much more momentum and it's easy to imagine that all Americans think the same way, but that probably isn't actually the case.

She was exactly the same flavor of bullshit that had eroded the country for decades. It's been pretty funny watching Republicans about-face so hard and fast on the government telling businesses who they have to serve the moment it affected white people instead of protected classes.

I did a bunch of phone calling for Bernie and I don't regret a second of it. he was the best candidate and stood a real chance of winning. arguing about whether he would have won or not is useless because that battle is over, though.

the point is it's an odd time to suddenly decide that pointless displays of pomp and ceremony are excessive and wasteful and unnecessary. they are, but that's american as hell.

President Beep posted:chuds are chuds, and having bernie sanders as the dem candidate wouldn't have automatically made some good people, but they're also often motivated by very tangible things that immediately affect them, and having someone run for president that promises real benefits for the working class (or parts thereof) resonates with them. https://academictimes.com/party-supporters-shift-views-to-match-partisan-stances/ I don’t disagree, but it also seems like there’s plenty of evidence to show most people follow a party and subscribe to the values of that party, not the other way around, and I don’t think it’s necessarily true to say chuds gonna chud, it’s just that they were raised in america where they’ve been fed that poo poo by their party for decades and it’s now who they are. as it turns out, I personally could do a better job running for pres. I know the right words to say etc

echinopsis posted:https://academictimes.com/party-supporters-shift-views-to-match-partisan-stances/ Surprised this isn't obvious to more people. Isn't that kind of the whole idea of a political leader - to lead the people and shape their beliefs? Chuds don't happen in a vacuum. Somebody told them that they need to stock up on guns, or else lose their way of life. Somebody else told them that democrats are the enemy who hate Jesus. And also that they should love Jesus. Humans as a species are tribe animals that follow leaders, it's not the other way around and it never has been. Hot take: 99% of us aren't in line for the iron throne. We're the chattel with zero control over our leaders. Poopernickel fucked around with this message at 22:32 on Jan 13, 2021 |

lol even if the lefts stance was “you need to pay out of your pocket, cash, not credit card, for health before you get any treatment, you can sell a kidney over the road if you need to first” the right would still call it socialism because socialism in america just means “bad stuff the left is into”
