I went on a road trip recently enough and when we passed billboards for The Thing I immediately thought of the Doug road trip episode. In fact, I think It in that episode was directly based on The Thing (which is apparently the corpse of a two-headed snake). I'm not saying it was a good show or anything, quite the opposite. The moral of that episode seemed to be "if you whine enough you'll get what you want," which is an excellent lesson for children in the target age range.

Oh yeah I think I remember the episode that you're talking about, it loving ruled. My favorite scene was the one where Skeeter blasts Doug with a flamethrower, and then Doug's head pops off and grows legs and starts to skitter away like a spider and Roger goes "You've got to be loving KIDDING me, Funnie!" That made me laugh my tits off as a little kid.

They're good roasted or pickled and can make your poo look like you have a bad case of gastrointestinal tract bleeding. Beets on the whole are good. Parsnips can get hosed though.

Sweet pickled beets are a special kind of awful, but on their own beets aren't terrible. Borsht intrigues me.

Borscht is good if it’s not too vinegary but it isn’t complete until you add sour cream

Japanese sweet potatoes (the ones with purple skin and yellowish-white flesh) baked whole with a little salt is pretty much the best potato experience available.

Les Os posted:trick with beets is to cube them then oven roast with some cubed sweet potatoes, olive oil salt and pepper until tender I do this every now and then, sometimes with carrots too. Good stuff. Oh, Doug, yeah I watched it, but it really doesn't leave much of an impression. It had a fun soundtrack and musical style that left an impression. Rugrats also had a unique soundtrack, which was done by Mark Mothersbaugh. I don't recommend going back and watching that show though. I watched it several years ago on the teenick(or whatever its called now) nicktoons revival and it is really pretty bad, for the most part.

I remember 2 distinct things about Rugrats: 1) Tommy being freaked out about cutting himself and having a dream(?) about toy stuffing coming out of the cut instead of blood. 2) Angelica convincing the babies that she was psychic, but getting the word wrong and cheerily proclaiming, "I'm a psycho!" Wait, 3 things. 3) Grandpa had alien roleplay porno tapes.

I could never get into Rugrats because I found the art style so dreadfully off putting. Doug was just sort of bland filler until Ren & Stimpy or Rocko came on but I'd change the channel to avoid Rugrats. That's probably how I stumbled on Beavis & Butthead and got turned into a monster by "evil" cartoons like Congress was freaking out about at the time. Borscht is kind of like chicken noodle soup in that there are so many variants and styles you could probably spend weeks diving down that culinary hole.
