Still cannot believe how many people took memes from literal gambling addicts used to justify their losses and compulsive behavior as sound financial advice. I guess it was a perfect storm of a good storyline, some people actually making money, and general pandemic boredom/desperation.Flannelette posted:The only light I see for GME was the origonal plan on WSB before everything got crazy was to use the investment to transform the company into having a digital sales thing for games so it could continue to function in the future instead of just dying or turning into a zombie. GameStop has zero competitive advantage in this over any other digital store, plus they are saddled with the costs of physical stores and staff. They made money off of high-margin items like used games, warranties, and toys that don't translate to digital. Their name and brand is worth about as much as Blockbuster. I think the original bet was maybe GME was undervalued at $5 and they can survive this console generation by closing stores and riding used games, but once this casino round is over chances are it's gonna coast back downhill Hilarious checking Reddit and seeing people dream new business models for GameStop NicelyNice fucked around with this message at 10:30 on Feb 6, 2021 |

GameStop has literally zero good will among its own consumer base and hasn't for at least a decade. Nobody liked GameStop, it just won the brand war on the retail games storefront. It's been a long drat time since there were 2 or even 3 of them in every mall in America. There is no business model that will save it, because nobody likes shopping there, and now nobody needs to.

I was wildly entertained by this whole saga, except today I've seen no less than ten posts of GME holders talking about being suicidal/having suicidal thoughts/having entirely torpedoed their (or their entire families') financial future, and now it is less funny to me. There was a hopeful stupidity to it all that, in the end, is just saddening.

It's like people forgot this company has been scraping by for years on the used game market, meanwhile digital downloads and Game Pass are taking over. NicelyNice posted:"Imagine GameStop fundamentally changes their business model and upends an industry with entrenched players with vastly more resources" I think I could save Gamestop if they would just hire me as a consultant, but those greedy fucks would rather go bankrupt than make me a fair offer. First of all, vaping. The kids love it, the business is booming. Sell them, create your own brand, 30% of the store area should be vapes. Second, gamer or weird japanese food. 30% of the store area should be all kinds of import japanese candy, Mt. Dew flavoured chips, gamer protein bars, etc. Third, overpriced coffee and bubble tea and a sitting area where ~patrons~ can meet, socialize, vape and buy more overpriced bubble tea. That should be the remaining 40%. See, it's called Gamestop because you stop there to talk about the games with other gamers Now, I've never been inside of a gamestop and I have no idea about gamer culture but I think this would work

Just remember that for any talk about "I ruined my families' financial future", most of them had the means to toss that money down. They're no worse off than the many many people who never had that money in the first place. also in any event like this there are people who enjoy writing fakeposts of stupid losses, like Drone Fragger's home loan. some of the most ridiculous over the top tragic posts are not true, just like some of the people claiming to be rich are also faking. especially on reddit where you get internet points for it.

Trading is a wild ride alright! I wanted to sell my 10 AMC 'stonks' before the weekend but then I would have been eaten a probe from ETrade for selling 'unsettled' stocks, they would have let me do it though! I've been telling people I committed an SEC violation to look cool. Out of all the meme stocks on Monday, selling off everything and starting over, lost 10 bux realized and 10 unrealized if I sold right now. Gonna hold my DRRX, the one I picked myself and think actually is a good company. Investing is best left to professionals. Gonna check out the long term thread and move everything to something stable.
