German salads remind me of my step-mom. She loves salads. She specifically likes to make "everything in the house" salads and it's basically a base of various greens with every drat thing in the kitchen added. Fruit? Chop it up. Veggies? Throw them in. Canned beans, olives, etc? Toss it in. Any meats? Shred it up and add it. Top it all off with a huge scoop of cottage cheese and sunflower seeds and dress with Newman's Own Olive oil and vinegar. Most of the time I'm down with about 75% of her ingredients but she will just keep adding poo poo until it's a heaping pile in the biggest bowl we own and it looks scary when she mixes it. Like lettuce themed vomit. And I'm not crazy about things like olives and kidney beans with mandarin orange slices or whatever weird combos she comes up with. side note: Newman's Own Olive oil and vinegar dressing is the best salad dressing ever. I would eat it on saw dust but I wouldn't eat one of my step-mom's salad monsters.

Slightly higher than water, so not a temperature you want in your house E: like you can freeze it in your refrigerator to edutain your quarantined kids

My Lovely Horse posted:This from the country where a salad is a whipped cream gelatin dessert with candy bars. that's as far as I can tell a largely Midwestern-exclusive use of the word, and by and large their cuisine is to be mocked from a safe distance. the gelatin salad is the worst salad, but this is the Wurstsalat https://www.daringgourmet.com/swiss-wurstsalat-sausage-salad/

Wurstsalat is good poo poo. Put it on top lettuce if you don't like the Euro definition of salad. E: I guess it's not just Germany that does amazing things with sausage salads.

Salad is literally just an uncombined mix of different pieces of food, typically served cold or room temperature and dressed. That's what salad means. There is no salad rule that says it has to be "healthy" or be mostly vegetables or any of that poo poo. Potato salad is salad. Wurstsalat is salad. It's all salad. Also both of those are good you prudes.

Per wiki: quote:A salad is a dish consisting of mixed pieces of food, sometimes with at least one raw ingredient. It is often dressed, and is typically served at room temperature or chilled, though some can be served warm. Therefore, chili is a salad.
