It wasnt that bad, after you left I got to help put out the fire!

Well I broke down and finally ordered a brushless ESC and motor for the RC10. I busted a tie rod end and figured while I was making an order got some other stuff. I smoked the windings in my Green Machine so I put my Slot Machine in it and it's just, slow. Looked it up and max rpm for the SM is like 25k and the BL is 50k plus I'm sure way more torque. It's going to rip now. Probably should look into upgrading the trans and stuff when it inevitably explodes though there's plenty of torque limiting settings on the ESC and my current trans has a slipper clutch. Also got some fly new wheels and tires so they will match. With all I spent on this car I could have just got something modern and reliable but where's the fun in that?

Whatever the reason I found the effect gets more pronounced the further away from the coast or to the south where the accent really stands out and most residents have never heard it live before. Also cross the border to Canada and no one comments - mostly due to the fact Australians roaming about are common.

I need new PC speakers. Just a 2.1 setup. Any suggestions at or under $100ish? Walmart had the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 setup, but it was Walmarted (like a lot of other stuff they sell) and wound up being a bit lower quality. Even on Amazon, the price point makes me question how good they really are, given the fact you can't get a single bookshelf Klipsch for under $200 (for their super low end stuff).

These 20+ year old Altec Lansings need to be retired. They still make noises (sub still sounds decent, you can tell the surrounds are gone on the satellites, still sound pretty decent all things considered), but they're well past their sell-by date. Not opposed to powered monitors either, but I think that'd push me well past my price point.

Moderna for me. My boss changed my days off so that I'm working the night that I get the 2nd shot (tomorrow), but have the following two nights off (originally I had Wed and Thu off, now I have Thu and Fri off). I'm fine with not having a sub if I'm using monitors with solid bass. I didn't think you could even find a decent set of monitors for that cheap!

The 3.5" driver puts out pretty decent bass? I'm not looking to rattle anything, I just want to actually HEAR drum kicks, gunshots when gaming, etc. And the reviews are a bit better for the PreSonus vs the Mackies.

Ehh I don't know about computer monitors when it comes to that. Usually they go for a very flat response and tend to expect to be paired with a sub. I'm curious what the frequency response curve for those speakers look like. But I share the same hesitation you do as far as getting decent bass. This is a case where shopping used can yield great results. I know this is wrong part of the country but I used a micro stereo receiver for years from Craigslist similar to this: https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/ele/d/lawrenceville-nice-denon-c1-micro/7287463151.html and got way better sound than the equivalent sound system aimed for PC's. If you shop around you can find used ones that have optical inputs instead of stereo rca plugs and some even have subwoofer preouts for adding a sub down the line. Plus you can switch to the radio or another input when the computer isn't supplying the signal. Assuming you got room on your desk for it somewhere.

Other option is to look for an inexpensive T-amp on amazon and get someone's used bookshelf speakers from online. You can go even cheaper than this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HR7PRV5

Yeah, there's definite bass if I dial the adjustment to midrange, and a bit too much if I turn it all the way up (I'd start saying things like "muddy" up there). Even with it dialed all the way down, though, they sound good - it's not no bass.

I do value more faithful reproduction over bass, but these still manage to put out too much bass (for me) if not adjusted, which sounds like where you want to be :D

I do have a pair of Infinity bookshelf speakers, along with an Onkyo home theater receiver (I also have a 1990s JVC receiver very early 5.1 receiver that needs some cold joints redone and hasn't had working surround since, oh, 2000ish... and an even older 70s Sansui receiver that needs a recap and some basic work done)- but that seems a bit overkill for this. also, no room on my desk for something that big (even with a cheap amp instead of the receiver). Though OTOH I was considering upgrading to a larger 2k monitor and ditching the two (hilariously mismatched) 22" 1080 monitors. I can't justify a larger monitor without a significant upgrade in resolution though, I use every inch of screen real estate.

I was hoping to put the Onkyo back on the living room TV now that we've renewed our lease (it was up in the air for awhile), along with the bookshelf speakers (plus my cheap lovely refurb Infinity satellites for the center and rear channels). The JVC might work out well if I can figure out why one channel keeps cutting out; it was a damned nice receiver when I got it (in 1995....). If I can get the video in/out switching working again, I was hoping to hook it up to the CRT TV we have for our console game systems (so far, Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Gamecube, original rev1 Playstation, Dreamcast, hoping to add a few others to the collection). None of those look remotely right hooked up to a modern TV.

... rambling at this point, but we probably should have just spent the extra $150/mo to move into a 2 bedroom, and turned the 2nd bedroom into an office/game room/STR cave. :sigh: (at the expense of the kitchen being about 1/3 of the size of what we have now). At least we have a garage, and being below the apartment, it doesn't get too brutally hot down there - might set up one corner of it for classic console gaming. Brokeback fits in there with plenty of room to spare, Matrix looks tiny in comparison.

Ah, the good old "texas headphones" monitoring setup you save for DJs or really deaf drummers. Starts somewhere around a pair of 12"+2" on top of a 2"x15" sub and from there it just gets more absurd the bigger the font your act has on the poster.

My first rave was Tiesto in 2000. Later I got in to doing concert audio at big festivals - I'd say that's a fairly standard monitor setup (i e, just for the DJ to hear the output, not for the punters at all) at a bigger stage.

I do _not_ miss having to deal with feedback from the vinyls at our drum'n'bass nights. We had to employ a fair bit of acoustic funtimes to basically create a zone where there was very little sub-bass on the stage so they could stop the deck with the channel open and not causing a huge amount of feedback in the 60 (and 120) Hz range.

Some subs like the Polk Audio 10" have speak level passthru. So signal goes from receiver/amp into sub/out of sub/into speakers. For T amp with sub preout not off the top of my head. Wirecutter has a guide though. https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-mini-stereo-amplifier/

Thanks. I have all the speakers, including a sub, just need to power them all, since the built-in amp and controls seem to have died. Altec Lansing ADA 890 from over like 20 years ago. I misspoke earlier - it’s 2.1 or 4.1. https://www.anandtech.com/show/817
It’s entirely possible the speakers will disintegrate if ever powered again, so I suppose I should investigate that before trying to re-power them.
