It'll be interesting to see if the Oilers claim Anton Forsberg back, since I believe he should still be eligible to be stashed in their taxi squad even though they waived him 2 months ago.

drat, if he gets claimed I'm going to miss that one cool and good thing that Jimmy Vesey does every 5-6 games and also his more regular invisibility superpower.

This is what happens when you disrespect Cam Neely

Ritchie is on the Flames now? who knew.

That's a guy I remember being excited for when he was coming up with the Stars, he put up some great scoring numbers in juniors and the AHL, when he first started with the team under Lindy Ruff he was getting fed a good 14-15 minutes a night on the 2nd line and putting up some goals.. I remember being reasonably sure that he was the young forward on the team with the most promise. his underlying shot /possession metrics were as good as anyone on the team.

When Ken Hitchcock took over the team he was basically told "you're a fighter now" and his ice time was cut to the point he was only getting 3 or 4 minutes some nights and averaged the lowest on the team. I was hoping that when he went to Boston he would get a 2nd chance at developing into a serviceable player, but in retrospect it was clear that they only valued him as a fighter and I'm not surprised that didn't work out either.

Late to Nashville sucks chat but I think it is also important to note that many of their “good” players are or have been injured. They currently have almost 29m in cap hit on the IR.

The amount of money stashed in IR doesnt necessarily mean theyre all good players.

As a Chicago fan, Im an expert in this area.

I'm gonna go on the record that it's utter garbage that Kucherov is being stashed on IR until the playoffs so Tampa can skirt the cap. In general, IR cap cheating is a far bigger issue in the NHL than tanking yet the league refuses to do anything about good teams doing it but will gleefully punish garbage ones for sucking.

They came down like a ton of bricks on backdiving contracts, so it's not like there's no precedent for retroactively invalidating obvious cap cheating.

Looked like a pretty standard dump in shot, not a hard slapper or anything. And it hit him in just the wrong spot around the ear causing a massive brain hemorrhage. The small city they were playing in didn't have the equipment or specialists to perform the necessary surgery to save him.

Hockey helmets are pretty much complete trash and players don't even wear them securely strapped, so even if they were good at protecting the head they probably wouldn't work properly. There was a brief frenzy of development when people started taking concussions seriously but I really don't think it accomplished much.

Imagine sleepwalking into the playoffs and picking up a kucherov at the trade deadline.

The helmets that they wear in youth hockey are so much better. It's the basic coverage versions that they wear on TV that really don't cover everything they need to be covering. Hell, they wear full helmets in college hockey. It's just a waste when there's equipment that covers your head better out there.

The cap is dumb and cheating is cool

I really doubt Kucherov would agree to be turfed for a season if he wasn't legit hurt

He underwent discretionary surgery a week before cap rosters were due solving all of Tampa's compliance issues and is now skating with the team at the halfway point of the season. It's clear he waited until the last minute to get a minor corrective surgery and is now spinning his tires until the playoffs start. He's won an MVP trophy and collected his full salary this year. He has little else to play for in the regular season and took the opportunity to take a year off then join a super team for the playoffs. It's cheating through and through.

Either he's going to be taking full team practices for weeks (which the NHL can use as clear evidence of circumvention) or he's going to come in ice cold and gently caress up the team chemistry so badly they get bounced in the first round

This is my prediction

He's skating already. How long can you be back on the ice but not practice ready? He'll likely join his teammates in a couple weeks and the NHL won't do anything.

The timeline for recovery is fine. If you want to presuppose that he purposefully underwent unnecessary surgery or delayed it, I’m going to laugh. Laugh at that.

Other players with the same surgery take about 4-5 months to recover. Skating is part of the recovery process? Seems like you just have a dumb opinion?

He underwent survey the day before the Lightning resigned Cirelli giving them just enough cap space to not have to trade anybody to be compliant with an expected return right around the time the cap would no longer be in effect. Kucherov getting surgery when he did gave them exactly enough cap space for exactly as long as they needed. They started the season $300 under the cap. What a coincidence!
