I heard about it from his coworker who called me to rat him out, and I told him to go home and stay there until he had a Covid test. Oof. Best of luck. The waiting is the worst.

Oh man I am beat today. I put trim, flashing and asphalt shingles on my shed this weekend. I'm glad I didn't buy a roofing nail gun but mad I didn't even try to borrow one. Probably would have taken less than half the time. Of course as far as a gym replacement it worked well. I also did most of the wiring inside for my off the grid system which I'm pumped for. Just need a battery and inverter.

Spring is finally arriving in PA. Took the dogs down to the creek at home because they love to explore, then put the bridge back in its normal spot after it got moved from the last flood. Then went up to my new property to look at it without snow for the first time. Cleared some overhanging tree branches and a log that had fallen across the entrance at some point before I bought it, and drove the beast in for the first time.

After a 30 minute trip to the CVS (which went remarkably smooth) I'm now half-chipped, with the second dose set for 4 weeks from now. So far no bad side effects a few hours in, but I am starting to feel like looking for fights about how the Xbox is the superior console platform. So y'know, BEWARE VACCINES

Anyway, I assume you're referring to this post: everdave posted:I am glad y’all are able to get the vaccine. I just got an email that my county has plenty and I can when I get back to town. But does anyone have reservations about something. That came out so quickly? Are there no concerns or drawbacks? I get the ~Just Asking Questions~ meme. I am aware of Everdave and that he often goes against the grain of popular opinion here. That being said, he clearly states he's not asking about a conspiracy theory, that he's signing up for the vaccine and voices an honest concern about side effects. These are concerns I have heard asked by a lot of people I know: coworkers, friends, normal-rear end people. People who might not be up on current mRNA vaccine science, including my own mother who I had to explain it to. That was a lovely probe. If I asked an honest question in ignorance and was answered with a giant <shut the gently caress up for six hours> I would be pretty inclined to not take a shot in my arm just out of pure spite. That helps no one. The only reason that probe could be valid was if Everdave was some kind of long-term troll which I know he's not. Unless his troll is making me seriously consider buying some kind of small JDM firetruck.

ED is a middle age white dude living in suburban Georgia, who doesn't post outside of this particular sub AFAIK, I doubt he's exposed to anyone as far liberal/left as the most centrist of us in his day-to-day life, and I can't see that post as anything more than some genuine squeamishness around getting shot up, which albeit he's expressed concerns about that have been answered before. But he did get the vaccine according to his posts, he listened to everyone here, and everything's turned out well. I think it was a bad probe. I also think it's easy to lose sight of how far removed from the normal US ideology this forum is, as someone who's considered a radical leftist by my coworkers, and a centrist/succlib/war criminal by these forums.

I do know, I also know that has to change somehow. A 6er for legit concerns about a new medication isn't that. If it were ""concerns"" about people of a certain ethnicity, sexuality, or gender nonconformance from expectation I'd feel very different. It's perfectly natural to seek reassurance/anecdotal evidence from people you trust if you're nervous about something, and there's a good number of us here that are fully vaccinated and can relate our experience personally. Again, I'd be a lot less optimistic if it wasn't: ED: "I'm worried about the vaccine" All: "Nah, the vaccine is good, and very well researched" ED: "Ok, sweet, I scheduled an appointment to get it, maybe I'd feel different if I didn't have kids, but I do so I'm definitely getting it" I just don't see how you draw a negative from that interaction, or think it's worth probating.

I did not know I got a probation ha. I asked about vax because I know there are very smart guys here who would know the scoop. I get the first dose 12:30 today, I will admit I am stressed out but a lot of that has to do with being on vacation with my kids for the past 10 days and now they are at their moms and it sucks. Hopefully all is fine after the dose and according to most it should be. I have a tiny fire truck being delivered today so at least I can play with the siren after.

So remember the Harbor Freight bench? There's about a 1" drop in the concrete slab a bit in front of it. It would make using a chair impossible, and a stool a bit... treacherous. So I did a thing. It feels like better use of the space anyway. And until I can get some better shims, used the broken Cruze window regulator to somewhat level it (the other half of it is on the back leg) Wiring is still atrocious, though I at least got the alarm wiring (what little there is) tidied up and cable clamped to the wall properly after taking these pictures. The only outlet is on the ceiling, hence the wire across the ceiling (it... was secured by hooks, but they pulled out of the ceiling ). EDIT: and just nabbed a pretty comfy counter height office chair for $15 from Goodwill (I guess this would be a "drafting chair"?). Perfect height to go with this. A bit worn, but it has a footrest, adjustable height, adjustable height armrests, etc. It very much reminds me of a high version of the desk chair I had at my first real job... in 1997. everdave posted:I am glad y’all are able to get the vaccine. I just got an email that my county has plenty and I can when I get back to town. But does anyone have reservations about something. That came out so quickly? Are there no concerns or drawbacks? The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines - mRNA - actually started development ages ago, in the 1990s, and their first use was originally going to be for MERS, IIRC. Time has a pretty decent writeup about the tech behind them. The J&J vaccine is not a mRNA vaccine, it's a single shot instead of two, and has fewer side effects, though it's not thought to be as effective against preventing you from getting sick at all (though it does prevent serious illness in all known cases). The side effects tend to basically be feeling like you have the flu for a few days (usually worse after the 2nd dose). It's certainly a lot better than actual COVID. I personally had the Moderna vaccine, and the 2nd dose did knock me down for a couple of days, but it also took a lot of anxiety out of my day to day life. Still wearing a mask everywhere for the foreseeable future, everdave posted:Got my vaxappointment tomorrow, on my birthday, at 12:30. Hope it doesn’t make me feel like crap. I got the J&J vaccine on Thursday last week and I had side effects for ~12 hours on Friday. I woke up with chills and just felt really tired and that progressed through to body aches and feeling really queasy by the afternoon and by 6:30 that evening all of that had passed. I'd say for me it was just a minor inconvenience and the benefits far outweigh the 12 hours of feeling a little crappy that came with it.

My state doesn't open up the vaccine for me until April 15. They don't include people that work at grocery stores, restaurants or all those things considered so essential even though I have to deal with maskless assholes daily. Some customers even come in with a mask then pull it down to talk to me. It over powers my pacifism in such a way that I may end up on the news one day

Wife got her chip/5G on Friday, I get mine on Wednesday. I got a wild hair after mowing the lawn on Saturday, and decided I was tired of mowing around the stump of the catalpa tree that was cut down a couple years ago because it died. Did you know that catalpa is a hardwood? It's on the soft end, but it still managed to dull the chain on my chainsaw in about 5 minutes. I sharpened it 3 times, got about half-way done, then realized the chain was pretty much done (it's several years old), and went and bought a new chain, plus a new handle for my double-bit axe, which also gave up (it was on its last legs when I found the axe in someone's trash - a Craftsman!,) and an 8-lb splitting maul, since I didn't have one, or a sledgehammer. Oh, and a new gardening trowel, because the super cheap one I had bent into a pretzel digging out dandelions before I mowed. Went through three sharpenings of the new chain, and just gave up on the chainsaw, and started digging for roots and chopping them with the axe, which actually worked a lot better. Got it all out and filled in the hole with some of the dirt left over from my plumbing job months ago. All of that is to say that today, my arms are noodles. A bit achy, but not near as bad as I feared. Before: After:
