1) pry the grate off the heating duct (?? It's like wrought iron and weighs as much as they do)
2) slither down the flex duct
3) push PAST the pinch point where there's a pipe it hops over
4) get stuck in the rigid duct in the basement with no access

so we had to have the HVAC guys down the street come by and disassemble the pipe with them inside

and just put them wholesale back in the bathroom
