I've just caught up with this week's Dynamite. The shop of MJF opening the locker room door and the Inner Circle stood outside glaring at him was perfection - the lingering camera shot was actual comedy gold. I could never imagine WWE doing something so funny and playfully silly at the same time. I'm starting to watch Dynamite more and more now, understand and recognising who people are. It's just such a soldi, reliable 80 to 90 minutes a week. Wonderful stuff.

Rather than post a match list, I'll just add that Marko vs. Lance Archer might be my favorite squash match of all time.

One thing that concerns me is, well WCW crashed and burned because the marquee talent was given too much creative freedom and they killed the product. Now I'm not saying WWEs Classic Hollywood studio style production line control freakery is good, clearly it is dreadful, but surely there is a balance right? So I just wonder, does AEW have a booker who is strong enough to say no every so often to the big personalities? Just curious about that side of things.

Tony Khan is the booker, and he's done a pretty good job of curtailing the impulses of talent in my opinion.

Tony Khan is the only booker and the buck stops with him. Also you have to keep in mind that the entire WCW locker room was just totally toxic. When you give guys like Hogan the book and total creative control in his contract, you know what you're signing up for. As much as this thread hates him, Cody is no Hogan, and he's the one who's the "most" concerned with stuff like cementing his own legacy it would seem, so I don't really see that kind of poo poo infecting aew, at least not soon.

The difference is AEW does have a head creative voice, Tony Khan, and his word is final. And he has used it from what I understand. Where as WCW there was the dreaded creative control clause in contracts, and also it was a different generation where as I holdover from earlier days there's a heavy idea of looking out for yourself and protecting your spot and the AEW locker room is less selfish like that. You might say their wrestlers are marks but there are other upsides to a chiller locker room.

Not to pile on and repeat what others have said, but just to add context, Khan has definitely said no to stuff. Jericho's initial pitch for Dinner Debonair was that it was a dream sequence. Khan argued him down to the song number.

If you can believe in an undead wizard cowboy who also leads a satanic cult and is a biker on weekends that controls electricity, and has a brother who's either a fire demon, serial killer, or corporate stooge, you can believe in a dream sequence.
