Use them to meld. The armor is bad, and the weapons aren't great. Some random weapons might need a piece or two, but you can just hunt her again if it comes up.

Are elemental damage types and bonuses from armor/decorations only if you use the particular elemental ammo type (I'm LBG this game). Or does it have a chance to add the element to any ammo used?

It came up a few pages ago, but here's a video on Elemental damage in Rise (looking specifically at thunder/fire dual blades).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF351WOBZ6Y

Boss weapon spoilers at 5:20, skip from maybe 5:10 to 6:10 if you're worried about that. Didn't notice anything during the Fire stuff but I'm not going to go back and check again.

Some comparisons of pure raw vs raw+elemental damage at around 12:10, and again at around 20:30.

The mist that chills you keeps me warm.

Anyone got any tips for a veteran GS main trying to get used to the CB (in Rise)? I understand how the weapon works, but I'm having some trouble getting used to the flow. This is my current setup:

I'm not done farming up all the decorations (another point in both Artillery and Speed Sharpening), and the charm currently gives Rapid Morph 2, but should be Weakness Exploit 2 instead. I think my biggest issues are: Aiming the AED correctly (I whiff a lot), canceling out of the SAED into the AED consistently, and knowing when it's appropriate to switch from sword and shield to axe mode via the Condensed Spinning Slash.

That’s a setting, player outline. Extremely should’ve been default.

So this is my very first monster hunter game that I've stuck with, the series always seemed super clunky and frustrating. I always hated the Lance, thought it was so slow and frustrating. Then I just saw these two videos and slapped together some bullshit Lances and cobbled together bits of armour and proceeded to set a new PB on nargacuga (5min45sec), just imitating what these guys did. Holy hell is this fun.

The real answer is that none of the final boss's weapons are done yet, hell they even have I (1) next to their names. You might be safe in assuming they will eventually become better, maybe even best in their class, at some point, and build them just for safety's sake.

Let's talk about where you're going.

As someone just getting back into this game (via World) I can say based on my limited experience that lance does indeed own. So does switch axe, hammer, insect glaive and charge blade. The others probably own also, but I haven't tried them yet.

Learn the kinsect cancel if you haven't already. It really transformed my ground game into this whirling mass of death, also super useful for cancelling overzealous combos.

Yeah, I was using spiral thrust sparingly at first as more of a get out of jail card and now I'm basically using it in place of guard dashing. It's so drat good and somehow lets me put even more pressure on a mon

Now I just have to learn how to use insta block and drop all these points in the guard skill from my build

Something a friend pointed out that's kind of funny about Narwa/Ibushi weapons is that they have high sharpness respective to their colours. Narwa weapons have lots of yellow sharpness and Ibushi have a lot of blue.

So how are they re-centering the camera in the middle of a spiral thrust? Pushing L to focus on the monster? I've tried that before, didn't really seem to work. I also feel like when I try spiral thrust, there's way more of a wind up and the camera is way more zoomed in on me (that might be a setting I can change somewhere).

You can zoom out the camera, options, camera, all the way at the bottom, camera distance. Also, I'm just free wheeling it, and it's not too bad. You really want to aim for head or tail to get the crit, and sometimes you might want to dash past to get out than dashing in.

Two ways to make this easier by making it so that you can always pull back on the stick irrespective of which way your character is facing:
- Use double tap L to center the camera behind the player before triggering the AED.
- Use the player-relative control option in the settings. I forget the name of the option, but clicking through the various camera options will show it to you. This works well with CB, but less so with some of the other weapons.

I use both, but if I'm maining the CB I prefer the latter.

You can make the former be a single tap L to center camera behind player, but I prefer using single tap for the target camera.

do i actually have to care about what skills and stuff are on my armor, or can i just use whatever looks cool? i want as little janitoring of my build as possible - i am perfectly happy to not run optimal builds, but i also don't want to handicap myself too badly

ideally i wouldn't have a build at all - i'd have a weapon and some armor and just roll with whatever looks coolest/has highest attack/defense number/etc

A lot of monsters have sets that are tailored to a weapon without necessarily being optimal. I believe the Nargacuga (NARGACUGULAR! 🤙) armor is decent for the SWaxe, for example. Eventually you can unlock layered armor so you can wear an ugly clownsuit to get the most optimal skill set while still looking stylish [if you want].

It's Almudron's armor that is the "Switch Axe" armor. Also the pun is Gnarlycuga. :smug:

If you just want a good all-round set that won't handicap your damage, Rathalos' gear is probably the go-to.

You don’t have to do anything, but you’re already “janitoring“ your build by posting in this thread asking for build advice.

You can wear and use whatever you want for the majority of the game, at worst it might add an extra 10-20% onto your hunt times but who cares? The game is all about hunting monsters and having fun.

As long as you're using some armour spheres to upgrade your armour as monsters are getting stronger, you probably won't even notice. I'm just using whatever greatswords look cool and play like normal. I feel nothing but happiness when my giant swings occasionally trigger a bunch of explosions on a monster's face, even if it's not an efficient status-applying weapon.
