I wish isometric 2d graphics hadn't taken out of favour when 3d came along. If you go back to that transition period, the 2d games hold up and the early 3d look like dogshit. Playing the d2 resurrected alpha makes me wonder what could have been if big budget studios made more gorgeous 2d art games. The oddworld remakes really lose some magic by being 3d instead of just doing the original art in 4k.

Idk if I'd call this art beautiful, but there's this game being made called Space Wreck that's supposed to be a throwback to the old isometric Fallout games. I think it looks pretty neat. We've now got to the point where 3d graphics are less space and performance intensive than 2d graphics. If you have a 2d game with 4k textures for everything itll be enormous
