Yeah I think one dude kept Friday Night Lights going with the weirdest broadcast deals I've ever seen. And now that I think of it the major cast change could have been to save money too.

I wouldn't feel too bad.

Will Forte explained what was planned for the cliffhanger, and it's just a reset into the status quo like always.

“[These people] went down [into the bunker] when the virus had first started,” Forte revealed on Vulture‘s Good Ones podcast. “They had some kind of medical expert or scientist who knew, ‘At this certain point, the virus will be dormant. You’ll be safe to get back out,’ and they had reached that point. Then they see a bunch of stragglers — us — and we represent a real threat to them, because they thought [everyone] was dead, so they quarantine us.

“We eventually communicate with them a little bit [and] they get comfortable with us,” he continued. “They look scary but they end up being nice people.”

As was tradition for the show, among the bunker people probably would have been one or two famous guest stars, à la Jon Hamm, “and eventually we’d all get comfortable with each other,” before they freed at least one of the survivors from quarantine. That, in turn, would have proven to be a fatal mistake. “We are immune to the virus, but we’re carriers. And so we would infect them and they’d die like wildfire,” Forte revealed, “and then we’re back to just our little group, and maybe one famous [guest star] we could talk into staying around.” All told, that arc would have lasted “four or five episodes.”

Has anyone watched Mary Kills People? I vaguely remember a trailer for the series but never heard anything about the show. Any good?

I'm a fan of Caroline Dhavernas from her days on Hannibal.

It's... OK? It really suffers from the Weeds problem of needing the main character to consistently make the dumbest possible choices to keep the drama going.

So almost exactly what happened half a dozen times already on the show. I’m really glad I never bothered watching past season 3.

The first movie was expected to be a niche film and make maybe $50-60 million. It almost cracked $200 million for what was not much more then a very expensive and glitzed up version of the original show.

If this one does anything close to the same it'll probably get a 3rd movie.

I should be more excited about this since I'm asian but man that Mortal Kombat trailer earlier this year looked more interesting and probably with a fraction of the budget. Why do they keep trying to make The Mandarin a thing.

Anyway it's cool to see the Kim's Convenience people getting paid

It made so much money (like $100 million of its $200 million gross came from the US) because, despite us fighting two goddamn wars to be free of their influence, Americans are bizarrely and inexplicably obsessed with the Royal Family in specific and British aristocracy in general. Stuff like Downton Abbey and The Crown is like loving catnip to a certain subset of the population and it boggles my brain.

As a kid who grew up watching Masterpiece Theatre with his British mother, I liked season 1 a lot. Then season 2 started and it was all just misery porn for the head footman or whatever and I decided that I really didn't need it in my life.

My favorite stupid part of Downton Abbey was when the one daughter finally is about to get married, and her fiance is like, "My love, we can finally get married soon... I just need to make a quick trip to Munich." And then he gets into a fight with Young Hitler and gets killed.

Poking fun at subjects is one thing. Other shows like SNL still do a great job at finding ways to inspire great satire.

But when a show stoops so low to use harshly hateful tactics like showing the Morrissey character with his belly hanging out of his shirt (when he has never looked like that at any point in his career) makes you wonder who the real hurtful, racist group is here.
