That's why I think every Olympic competition should have one randomly chosen regular person in it to show people who don't know the sport what a normal pace/distance/whatever is.

Idea. Have one year where they allow 20 riders who have never raced professionally before but swear they could be contenders if given the chance join the Tour de France, and film it for Netflix.

Does anyone have any tips other than put soapy water on the bead for getting tyres to seat evenly? Just replaced a tube in my rear wheel and my WTB resolute just does not want to sit all the way on the bead evenly, it's all bumpy.

I feel stupid typing this out, but here goes... I'm exactly on the border of two helmet sizes (for Giro helmets at least). I ordered the size L and.. it fits, I guess? I had to tighten the straps by a lot and the fit system is almost at its tightest (but not fully) and it doesn't seem possible to slip it off my head or over the eyes. Pretty much as described here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVDYNz_Ub7s Is that good enough to stop worrying or should I order the smaller size to have a direct comparison?

I went from a large Kask Mojito with the ratchet tightened most of the way to a medium with the ratchet mostly open. Happy with the decision. Feels and looks better and surprisingly the M was noticably lighter than the L. Maybe it's my imagination but over long rides it seems to lessen the cumulative neck strain.

Pretty much as described here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVDYNz_Ub7s I'm also between sizes and found that the medium, while a touch snug, ended up being a better fit. I actually still keep the large in my fatbiking helmet around and wear it in colder temps where in an emergency I might need a full toque under it. Best part of sizing down is I can now put a big arse light on my helmet and it doesn't move around at all.

The tube should push the bead into place with enough air pressure. What do you mean it’s “bumpy”? Like its appearance or when you roll it and it’s wobbling?

The tyre is on the bead in places but still slightly tucked under in others, so when I spin the tyre there are dips where it's not fully seated. It feels bumpy to ride not just to look at, since it's unevenly seated. I've already pumped it to the max pressure too so not sure where to go from here.

The tube should be evening out and seating the tire at max pressure, so that's weird. Maybe try deflating it and then massaging the tire up from the bead evenly on both sides?

If there's a bump at the valve stem then deflate the tube and push the stem into the tire a bit when you reinflate.

Yeah, like rngd in the womb mentioned, at full pressure the bead should sit. It could be that your tire is sitting on top of the tube in certain places? I'd also suggest deflating the tire entirely, going around the wheel trying to settle the bead toward the middle of the rim (you can grab the tire on both sides and sort of wiggle it back and forth) and looking at the rim to make sure the tube is inside the tire itself (should be easy enough to lean the tire to one side and look underneath the bead to make sure you don't see any tube in the wrong place). Try inflating after this and see if it goes any better.

Like its appearance or when you roll it and it’s wobbling? This may be true, but I've had it help me to seat stubborn beads in Aphex's situation as well. I'll also pump up to max or near max pressure and try to slide the very tip of a tire lever in between the tire and rim at the point where the tire starts to be off the bead, and slide it towards the deeper un-seated part with soapy water in there. You may find that's you're unable to do this at max pressure, and need to lower it, but this also helps relieve the friction between the sidewall and the rim that's preventing it from sliding out of the way to let the bead seat.

Its a WTB tire their beads are tight AF you might actually need to inflate to over max pressure. Do it slowly with a hand pump and as long as you see the bead creeping up into place it should be fine. Watch the pressure you shouldn't need to go more than 20psi over but we've had to do this a number of times. The good news is once it's on there WTBs very seldomly burp.

I’m super angry and wish to share my pain. Gammon who’s house I do disability support work for will not leave my loving tyres alone. It started with him insisting I needed dust caps on Schrader valves and me telling him I didn’t. Then when I wasn’t looking he twanged the entire valve so hard that the inter tube split, because presumably he thought I would think it was the dust caps and “learn my lesson”. I rode off like nothing had happened and then changed the god drat inner tube on wired black Jack tyres round the corner. Fast forward two weeks and I still do not have dust caps on, he points this out and again I say that no I don’t need them. I get on my bike to ride home and this absolute motherfucker has let the air out my front tyre.

Maxxis re-fuse did it, and these WTB tires are prone to it too - they even have a little fabric part that likes to get tucked under the lip and spoil the tubeless seal. I get it seated then reduce the pressure enough to work it out evenly all around by hand, then back up to pressure.

4 years ago you guys gave me the push to do something I'd always wanted to do, which was design and make my own kits. I did it on my own with far too little money behind me and just a handful of friends backing me up. I learnt some horrendously harsh lessons but at the same time I can now count a Track champion as a friend and I got my stuff on Olympic Gold medalists. Not bad for a guy who just wanted to make bonkers stuff for himself really. I'm going to be closing the store down in a few weeks and I've reduced my prices to reflect that. Thank you for all your support goons. A bunch of you have got my stuff and it really meant a lot to me.
