Hell the gently caress no. At least you might be able to get some sort of unintentionally hilarious and creepy scouting report about your team out of Pierre.

I'd have him armchair quarterback Doug MacLean's failed deal to get Chris Pronger, which MacLean denies, and then post it to get Dougie Twitter mad again.

The kids have actually started stepping up in the last 20 or so games. Risto? Not so much...

Reinhart isn't exactly a kid anymore, but he stepped up. He was 5th in goals in the NHL for the month of April(10 goals, 15points in 16 games), and he was playing at center rather than wing for the first time in his NHL career. With the corpse of Jeff Skinner and power play specialist Victor Oloffson on his line.

Dahlin had 11 points in 16 games in April

Mittlestadt, 13p in 16

And the young depth forwards Thompson, Bjork, Asplund, Ruotsalinen all have shown potential. Could have a nice stable of 15-20g middle 6 wingers for the first time in a decade.

Cozens has looked great at times, and has had rookie struggles at others. He's much more of a power forward, tough guy kind of player than I expected. But he's still physically underdeveloped for the role, he's got to grow and get his man strength and put on some more muscle.

Could really use a good defensive defenseman(Oleksiak, Larsson, Merrill, Savard are all UFA. Dunn potentially available by trade) and a goalie from free agency. And inject a healthy 95 point Eichel back into the line up and we might finally be turning the corner.

Sabres need to:

- Trade Risto, ditch Miller (expansion draft?) and keep Bryson in the AHL. Re-sign McCabe, keep Jokiharju, Borgen & Dahlin and sign another good defenseman.
- Ditch Hutton, sign a Ullmark and another decent goalie. UPL needs more time in the AHL.
- Sign a good forward (RW?) to play in the top six, now that Reinhart is likely to play center on the second line. Reinhart is also gonna get paid this off-season which is gonna complicate everything. Bonus points if they play Olofsson on the third line but the first PP unit.
- Lock Cody Eakin in a dumpster and light it on fire
- Don’t loving trade Eichel
- Either keep Granato on as head coach or find a cool and good coach and keep Granato on as an assistant.
- Don’t even get me started on the Pegulas

If they do all of this in one off-season they can be competitive next year and maybe make the playoffs? But Eichel isn’t going to want to put up with this poo poo much longer. The odds of them getting everything done this off-season are nearly zero but maybe Kevyn will pull some magic out of his rear end idk

Not even rumors of Eichel asking for a trade.

The Ranges allegedly put an offer on the table for Eichel last offseason. Kevyn Adams turned it down. Adams is rumored to have floated the bidding starts for Eichel at the value of 4x 1st round picks, and he likely means 4 top 10 picks.

Lol Buffalo is stupid but nobody in the world is going to trade Eichel to an expansion team. What would they get out of that? Seattle has no prospects.

The credibility in the rumor that Eichel wants out is that he plays for Buffalo

Good Soldier Svejk
Jul 5, 2010

I'm not sure relying on Reinhart as a 2C is going to a winning play for Buffalo. His production is boosted due to extra PP time and a career high shooting percentage and his underlying numbers have him taking lots of chances but giving up a ton, too. He'd need an incredibly sheltered role to thrive which means either Eichel gets shutdown duties or they need to find a 3C in the Jordan Staal or Mikkael Backlund vein

They're not going to trade Eichel unless he publicly demands it because it would be suicide with the local media, but if Eichel does demand it, they won't get anywhere near that much.

Eichel may hang in there one more year, after which his full NMC kicks in and then he can not only demand a trade but demand to be traded to a specific team. In which case the Sabres would have no leverage and would be forced to settle for a bog standard package of a first, a couple lower picks, a decent-but-overpaid player to help offset Eichel's huge cap hit, and a B+ prospect.

He's been our 1C for the past month or so and has looked better doing it than anyone hoped for. His 2 way game has never been very good. I don't know what the right move is with Reinhart going forward, but I do know it's at least nice to have the option of thinking the Sabres could role 3 scoring lines, centered by eichel, reino, and mitts.

Let’s start with the fact that the only other players to do what Smith is in the process of doing are either already enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame or will be soon.

Only five players in NHL history — going back to 1955-56, when save percentages were first recorded — at the age of 38 or above have posted a .920 save percentage while playing more than 25 games. Smith is at .925 through 29.
