I'm glad The Mitchells Vs. The Machines took time to let us know that son character is definitely into girls and not gay.

It was a cute, funny little show the first couple seasons but I kind of lost interest somewhere along the way. Typical issue of contrived personal drama intersected with increasingly ridiculous plots to keep all the plates in the air.

Felt the same way, the fact that it was such a nightmare to work on won't make me miss it now that it's gone either

Yeah, it quickly went from a “sit down and watch” show, to a “background while doing chores” show in a bout a season and a half.

It's seems the fate of so many sitcoms and comedies that after after a few seasons the writers decide you're tuning in for the plot-arc and things descend into a crappy soap opera

likewise Louis CK’s final curse onto the world was to reduce every comedian helmed show and arguably comedy itself to a protracted jerkoff session

On the recommendation of TVIV, I've started watching The Americans. Up to episode 4 right now and it's of acceptable quality. Buuut I've just read on wikipedia the writer is a former CIA spook

Does this show degenerate into veiled American and CIA propaganda or is it worth sticking with?

I watched most of it and more than anything it reminded me of Roman historians of the late Republican or early Imperial periods talking up old vanquished enemies. There's a sense of nostalgia for the bygone conflict and a sense of "this enemy was so great that our victory was all the sweeter." That said as a spy drama it's not bad. The two leads carry the show imo

Even better, I don't believe anyone else wants to sign on to reprise their roles so it makes it even more of a pointless endeavor

It has a few nods to the awfulness of the U.S./World Bank policy in Central America, and also the central woman character uses FDR's "our bastard" quote about Somoza but for a Soviet proxy, which I thought was a nice if slightly ironic touch

I felt like the show was also as much about the ennui of middle class American life as it was about the romantic dream that the USSR represented for the main characters

Just make your own series then lol

recently busted through superstore as a 2nd monitor show while i worked, and it was alright. it was a michael schur show if he was about 75% more cynical and 50% more mean, so it was totally fine

it got a little courageous with the unionization stuff but then dropped it immediately after because of a sudden new plot point it was lame

I'm not a fan of the series but what the hell happened to the second Kingsman movie?

The first has a plot where every rich and powerful person on Earth (including Obama) is conspiring to wipe out the unwashed masses - and it ends with every rich and powerful person on Earth getting their head exploded. In the sequel the big bad gal's evil plan is to force the President (who is a generic nobody) to end the drug war, and then when he decides to let every drug user on the planet die instead he is eventually punished with... impeachment?

Some Guy TT
Aug 30, 2011

i was kind of unnerved how in the second kingsman movie they murdered three villains in a row in cold blood after specifically going to the trouble of neutralizing them first

maybe thats why the president got off with just an impeachment since there was literally no one left to contradict whatever story he told

LIVE AMMO COSPLAY

Seeing as Julianne Moore gets a weak-rear end death and Channing Tatum almost immediately gets removed from the plot and is gone from the movie it feels like there was some kind of last minute hack job edit.

Some Guy TT
Aug 30, 2011

kind of funny to think that with all the villains dead and also the american cop they were working with there isnt really anyone who can actually verify the kingsmens story

just yup this crazy woman tried to kill everyone in the world with drugs nothing to do with us also we had to shove the guy we were working with into a meat grinder because uh he was really mad that his girlfriend died from an overdose yeah thats it
