Never thought I'd see the day where a Jeopardy host had never heard the name of a current Supreme Court Justice. Or maybe I was just misinterpreting her reaction.

I think only 1 percent of Americans can name them all which was a bit shocking to me because I figured more than 1 percent were political junkies.

I can’t name them all off the top of my head but I’ve certainly heard all their names and would recognize them as Supreme Court justices if I read them.

Regarding Dr. Blossom, her giggling got more more annoying as the days rolled on & to me knocked her down the ranking order somewhere between four and six. Coupled that with her opinions on brain pills, Israel, & vaccines and Sony would likely go whoa!, we can't have that as that would end the tenure early so I think while serviceable she's a non starter.

Yeah, she's at the bottom of the pile to me with Dr. Oz. When she started I was happy to admit she was a great presenter if not a good person, but oh man did that go downhill.

The way she would tack on some extra trivia on each answer really got on my nerves.

I feel that most of her extras were relating something to herself “my favorite dish!” than educating the audience “King George’s final year on the throne”.

yea that was what annoyed me the most (well I guess tied with the endless laughing), Alex would add fun little trivia bits to fill gaps and that's fine but god nobody needs to hear five different versions of 'I like pizza' thrown in.

Even if she wasn't a brain pill selling, rape apologizing, anti-vax, racist freak she'd be my least favorite by far. At least Doctor Oz is a charismatic huckster piece of poo poo.

This seems to be a Mike Richards thing as I think every guest host has done this. It can provide some context to some questions but it slows the game down.

I caught The Conners episode with Rodgers in it and 1. Holy Moses does the show blow goats and. 2. He looked more lost doing the episode than hosting normal Jeopardy! He's still number 2 in my ranking after Buzzy and ahead of Ken.

The basketball clue about jump balls was worded badly, if not incorrectly.

I don't have the exact text in front of me, but what I recall of it:
It insinuated that jump balls after baskets went away with the development of the possession arrow.

Long, long, long time ago there were jump balls (center jumps) at the end of each basket. But that has nothing to do with the possession arrow, which comes into play on tie-ups (that type of jump ball), at the end of quarters or the basketball being stuck on the rim.

I'm finding this happens so much lately. The writer's room really needs to get back to in-person work because it is slacking. It was especially noticeable in the ToC, I thought.

Also I didn't have a problem with tonight's final, as a Canadian. I initially thought "laissez-faire", but as soon as I saw the word "statement" it clicked. A statement in 19th century America about leaving everybody the gently caress alone is always going to be the Monroe Doctrine.

Once again the final jumped into my mind right away thanks to Dave Barry.

Dave Barry posted:

The first major president to be elected after the War of 1812 was President Monroe Doctrine, who became famous by developing the policy for which he is named. This policy, which is still in effect today, states that:
1. Other nations are not allowed to mess around with the internal affairs of nations in this hemisphere.
2. But we are.
3. Ha-ha-ha.

See, to me that would be a statement of 'we own this whole loving hemisphere, like it or not'.

Savannah is ok, not bad but not spectacular. It doesn't feel phoned in but I don't think Jeopardy is light enough to be a good fit but what do I know?

Final has also beem unusually easy this week so far too.

I can't tell if it's Savannah's delivery or the overall quality of the contestants lately, but I'm having a hard time getting with the flow of the game and concentrating.

Also pretty sure that one contestant said Twelve Night instead of Twelfth Night.

They all have been, though Mayim was probably doing it the most (it seemed like every clue in her last show). I feel like most of the guest hosts feel that's the way to stand out and show off their personality.

Savannah is fine, but she keeps sounding exactly like Elizabeth Olsen on and off and that's distracting.

Yeah, it is somehow simultaneously both too easy and also too broad a clue, which is some impressively bad writing. It obviously meant Jackie Kennedy, but there are tons of women it could have likely applied to.
