Here, I'll go back and find that website, and YOU download it and see what you find.

There.

That was the least sketchy website of the bunch. So sorry that I don't just blindly hit " Yes" to everything that pops up.

Oh don't get me wrong... I'm nopeing out at seeing the link.

I just mean there are definitely still legit downloads that are going to come via FTP because...

It's still hilarious that they put two numbers per button. Why? Using the second numbers in the code doesn't change the fact that it's the same buttons.

FTP listing and downloading functionality was built into Firefox until recently, but that got removed in an update. That's why it now asks what software you want to use instead of showing you a list of files you can download. Imo it is a poor call on Mozilla's part to just change behavior that has been fairly consistent for 30 years. It's not an indication of anything being inherently fishy though.

Firefox itself is sadly getting close to obsolete and failed technology. Its market share has gone from its 2012 high of almost 25% to something like 3% now, and they've been laying off staff like crazy. IIRC the only thing keeping them afloat is a search partnership with Google, who is probably only doing that to keep at least one Chromium competitor alive as antitrust insurance. As an open source project it will never "die" but its heyday is firmly in the past.

It would help if they stopped redesigning the UI and add-on backend every ~18 months, stopped removing useful features for fear of confusing idiot grandmas who make up <1% of their userbase, and if they had a development plan that wasn't a single sheet of paper with "COPY CHROME!" scrawled on it in crayon.

I use it firmly as my 'nothing is ever logged in' broswer and for my VPNs plugin so I don't have a system-wide PVN that conflicts with my normal playing games or plex traffic.

Yeah whats the go with W3C and standards? None of the browsers comply with anything.

A fun issue at work, maangement are bitching about a certain vendors requirement to have 2FA on logins to their support backend. Literally having 'big important meetings' this week trying to get our site a different way. This is the same site that suffered from a cryptolocker style attack not a month ago.

I keep mine in a cabinet with the CD-Rs, CD-RWs, floppies, cd caddies, and empty cases for when I want to burn something to give to someone. I can't remember the last time I did that.

Same, but for a Blu-ray burner/player.

It was an absolute joy to find out that MS didn't pay the license fee for the codec so you had to play Blus via some 3rd party program

I'm fine with Chrome itself as an application but I hate the idea that I'm "paying" Google for it with literally all my data. I also hate that the plugin/extension system is designed in such a way that you just have to trust the add-on makers with your history and cookies too, but I think Firefox is mostly the same way in that regard.

Guy's got a Lenovo Thinkstation with 16gigs of RAM, a 1TB SSD and an i7. I'm like dude wtf are you doing running 4 instances of Blender or something?

Sometimes you click a link for something, and then you get distracted needing to look at another tab, and then you forget about the first one. Rinse and repeat. Once a month I'll go through and close all the reddit tabs I've left open.
