I don't know about a TV series, the animation wouldn't have been as good and I'd worry about how they'd stretch the plot. But a 6 hour OVA series released over the course of a decade? The thing that makes me somewhat hopeful is that it's been in development for so long that the script was probably written long before they started putting musical numbers into every single episode. Now, I'm sure the movie will have at least one musical number, but maybe it won't be as annoying and out of place as it could be?
