Has DRM ever not mainly served to inconvenience the people who actually bought the thing? CD checks, manual codes, FBI warnings, etc? I also remember when going to gamecopyworld to get the no-cd crack was a practical necessity for games I actually bought just so I wouldn't have to put the CD in the drive every time I loaded it up.

Yeha, GCW was at least as much about the convenience as the piracy. I'm sure it has driven some sales, but it pales in comparison to the "just make it convenient to pay" model of Steam. I've bought games there I never plan to play just to kick some money to companies that ... may not have gotten the money they deserved back in the day.

You've never lived until you spent the early to mid 80's pirating software from a BBS with a C64 and a 300 baud cartridge modem. Very, very slowly.

His Divine Shadow posted:I recently bought a cassette deck. Nothing's too late. My pickup's glove box is packed with cassettes. It only had an AM/FM radio to begin with. I found a mostly compatible cassette unit at a thrift shop for $5, used a dremel to cut it down until it fit, and wedged it in. This was circa 2016. IMO a cassette adapter is easier to use than an FM transmitter, although I have both.
