My favorite FF is 8 because it's so obviously the product of Square believing that they couldn't possibly gently caress up after 7 was the most insane smash hit ever, so they just crammed it full of every weird idea they had without any second thoughts and just assumed it would all work Like people complain a lot about the gameplay systems being weird and stupid but even as a teenager who hated doing math homework, I still had a lot of fun recognizing how all the weird ideas interacted and beating the game at level 12 or so and one-shotting bosses along the way The story though is even more insane and it's fun trying to explain it to people. I have a hard time not breaking down into laughter when I get to the "and THEN it turns out that all your party members grew up in an orphanage together but they all have amnesia and don't remember, except for the sniper character who remembered the whole time but didn't say anything because he didn't want to look weird"
