“fact checkers” have really hilarious biases in politics and snopes has been a bad site for years since that one guy put his name on all the articles written by everyone else and fired everybody or whatever that was

I’d say “annoying centrist democrat” “propaganda” if anything

The fact checker for the wapo is the trust fund child of Enron founders (or execs I don't remember).

Going to have to give my statement 5 pinocchios. First of all Glenn is a man not a child, and secondly he is the son of shell founders and not Enron founders.

not all rangers are cops

there are interpretive rangers that do all the talking and tours and maintenance

then protection rangers are legit feds and also do ems and search and rescue stuff

this happened a couple times, one of them had glenn's dumb rear end awarding him several pinocchios for the claim that "millions of americans are forced to work two or more jobs to make ends meet" and that since this was only like 8 million people out of a nation of nearly 400 million this was obviously misleading and wrong

the other one was even worse, bernie stated a fact that like half a million people would go bankrupt from medical bills that year alone, and sited some harvard study. glenn admitted the study was accurately quoted, i think even got a blurb from one of the researchers being all "yeah that's right, bernie's being conservative here if anything" and then called them both liars anyway and tried to handwave it all away. that got a ton of people laughing at the wapo, even rolling stone was mocking them for that shameful poo poo

Never heard of that.

I wonder if it's the new critical race theory. Like it's A Thing in some specific context that has nothing to do with what the Heritage Foundation (or whoever) is getting people riled up about.

i remember when i was a kid thinking how stupid social security numbers were when i was told you have to keep it secret. it is so short and so easy to steal. only 9 numbers? that you have to give out pretty often to a bunch of different strangers working at a variety of companies? how is that a good way to identify people, that is so incredibly stupid.

well it turns out everything is incredibly stupid not just that, and nothing ever gets fixed or gets better. when you have to identify yourself for some banking stuff, or for TSA if you lost/forgot your ID when you're flying, they ask you a bunch of questions that ~only you would know~ (since social security numbers obviously aren't enough if it is actually important) and they're mostly about places you had lived in your past or addresses near old addresses of yours. The last one is actually impossible in Hawaii, I've failed it a few times and eventually they just acted like I passed. Nothing matters, it's all just a big show.

they already have passport cards, just add a permanent address field on the back and you're done. they'd basically be identical to eu country identity cards

but if the federal government was the one that was issuing identification cards then how could state and local tyrants discriminate against people that they irrationally hate? remember the whole point of voter id laws is that they are paired with laws that reduce DMV hours for getting a state ID to literally 6 days a year for only a few hours.

an important and effective way of pushing the narrative towards your insane extremist views is to attack people who have more moderate versions of your views as dangerous fringe extremists. see: anytime a republican uses the word socialist to describe anything.

im thinking more about a combined digital/physical id where most of the information is stored digitally and requires authorization to get. i.e. no address on the card, but if someone wants the primary address you have registered with the government they can do an authorization request and you can approve or deny it. federal and state entities would probably already be authorized.

the idea being to prevent you from having to get updated cards every time you move or something changes. they should be valid forever or until they wear out and you just order a replacement at no cost. also no cost to issue them in the first place.

state level registrations like tax ids or drivers licenses would be extensions added on to your federal id. you'd also have a public id that could be used for registration with 3rd parties as a replacement for SSN. when they try to request authentication of you or any other information about you, you would need to approve it and then they get a private identity for you thats unique to you and their entity that they can use for future access and which you can revoke at any time.
