When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

I both like (because its more realistic and I've been asking for it) and hate (because it makes me less godly) that the tank turret now moves at a reasonable pace instead of with the same freedom and mobility as your own gun. Only took me 7 or 8 rounds to even sit in one.

It's weird, because while I didn't like what I played of BF5 and never actually ended up getting it, even I could admit that it was basically an evolution of a lot of the concepts from BF1, and further back in the series. This almost feels like the differences you'd see in a COD game year over year, but in that case they were generally because different studios worked on different titles but this is all DICE.

Does anyone know whether 2042 is on a significantly different version of Frostbite, so there could be unfamiliarity with the new tech?

Me either. That's... great? That's a wonderful touch in a game where cover is constantly destroyed yet you still have to defend points: building your own dang cover after all the houses are gone.

BFV fortifications did really...nothing. They were good for farming points but that's it. Thank god there isn't back prone because that was the worst.

The funniest thing about BFV was you couldn't even learn to become a skygod post launch. The unlocks change the performance of the airplanes so much that you just are not able to compete with pilots who have everything else unlocked,

In conquest they weren't that helpful since you frequently don't stay at one location to defend for long periods of time but in breakthrough, the superior BF game mode, they were super useful. I specifically remember that north Africa airbase map where one of the objectives was that large hangar with the wide open doors. If you didn't place the tank traps outside and the sandbag walls at the entrances the enemies would just be able to spawn kill you with tanks and snipers by just sitting outside and shooting through the massive opening. EDIT: Also that map with the massive cathedral you wanted to plug the side entrances with sandbag walls so you can funnel the enemies better.

^^I liked the fortification system personally because if I wanted to feel 'useful' but have a bit of down time, I could fortify up a point. It wasn't great in cq but in breakthrough it was definitely useful. There that radio tower mode (was it outpost?) they were super useful on Mercury to stop shelling from tanks (and all the sniper spam) at the middle point of the map, and I was dedicated fort builder every time that map/mode rolled around. That was a real fun mode.

Gonna try this because I have been having a hell of a time trying to get a low ping lobby this entire beta.

Can't help it, I'm enjoying playing Bad Game 2042. DICE has the same thing going for it that Bethesda does with it's Elder Scrolls series. The only team worse than them at it is everyone else who tries, they're the only game in town if you want that flavor.

When is launch? I want that updated build.

Game is good, it's a modernized BF4. Taking ziplines from Hardline and placing them so that you can move from point to point quickly is a good decision.

Tanks beefy but not invincible. Skylords gonna skylord but making it so that transports are more prevalent is smart. Weapon balance in beta is a mess but to be expected.

It's a sandbox again which is all I wanted so I guess I'm the target demo for this.

Building stuff in BF5 conquest was useful for breaking up long range sight lines. If you were a support there was an occasional useful place to build a machine gun or AA gun.

They were largely pointless in most cases. the cases where they werent were the ones where after digging the foxhole, putting cover up and other misc tasks when suddenly you could assemble an anti tank battery looking at a capture point.

Those were still pointless but also funny when you beamed a tank with em.

It's because BFV after years of patches is not a buggy mess with rubberbanding and teleporting everywhere like this alphabeta is.

Definitely one of those baffling design decisions along with the specialists and allowing any "class" to use any weapon. Who is going to pick a med pack or ammo box over a Carl Gustav or C5 (lol)?
This is absolutely a directive from EA, to make it like COD Warzone, everything geared towards lone wolves, nothing geared towards teamplay anymore. Teamplay is dead, COD Warzone killed it.

I think a big difference is like, with the class system before players generally did take things that benefitted the team. Want to take an LMG? Well you're probably also carting around an ammo box, might as well mash the gadget button and give everyone bullets. Same with medics and medic boxes, etc...

Now I can take the LMG and just throw an RPG in there like it's Battlefield Vietnam again.
