Just loving read the package. There's a lot of weird tricks people have for making better or more fancy ramen, but almost all prepackaged food products will have some kind of instructions on them anyways because they want people to be able to eat them. Some more generic food items that aren't meant to be eaten alone will have more complex recipes on the package to at least give the consumer an idea of what to do with them.

It definitely seemed like this was a person who didn't know how to use a stove. They didn't know how to boil water. The instructions aren't going to help.

I had a friend in grad school who literally didn't know how to cook a can of soup on the stove. He was a nice guy, but incredibly naive in a few areas for getting that far along in life. Although the upside was seeing how incredibly disgusted he got upon seeing even the most basic raw meat, never having been around it personally

i guess i'm just prejudiced as i grew up as a neglected semi-feral for a stretch and if you come from that you have to figure out a few basic methods of food prep. when i run into someone who doesn't even know how to boil water i wonder how the gently caress that even happened.

I also grew up semi-feral and I learned by reading instructions on the package, slapping things together and eating the results because I didn't have any other choice. Growing up my stepmom cooked or we ate out. When I turned 18 and my parents left I had no real cooking experience that wasn't opening a can or package and heating it. More importantly I had no grocery shopping experience whatsoever because usually at the most I'd be allowed 1 luxury item like grapes. Yeah, the fudge covered oreos were a staple, but I had to ask for fresh fruit. So I had no idea how fast things went bad or how to figure out how much to buy for a week, etc. Gaining the ability to google a recipe was the best thing ever, that wasn't really a thing when I was 18 and living on my own. I have no idea how anyone with access to the internet 24/7 now can't figure poo poo out because there are so many ways to watch or read how to cook almost any recipe step by step. You almost have to not want to try in comparison. I could google almost anything I want to eat right now and be told how to make it.
