The trope of doctors always playing golf is something I only know from looney tunes and old media self-consciously invoking even older media, like Spaceballs. That goofy golf gear strikes me as exactly the same thing. It’s like seeing archival content from a universe where covid happened 60 years earlier than it did here.

Rowe: Nationals fail to land on climate position during marathon meeting as Barnaby Joyce warns party will not be bullied (ABC). Angus Taylor is the energy & emissions reduction minister. Bridget McKenzie is Deputy Nationals leader, Rowe draws her with a gun because during the sports rorts affair she awarded a bunch of cash to a shooting club without declaring that she was a member. Broelman: Kudelka: The image of the National party is that they're for farmers - they all tend to wear Akubra hats - but they act far more for coal. Warren Brown: New South Wales has hit 80% fully vaccinated for age 16+ and so is removing a whole bunch of restrictions. Knight: Victoria has hit 70% fully vaccinated for age 16+ and so is removing a whole bunch of restrictions. Leak, Son of Leak: Tasmania is in a snap lockdown after a lone positive man escaped quarantine, went to a whole bunch of places before being caught, and then wouldn't cooperate with authorities to tell where he had been. If Tasmania's coronavirus lockdown is extended as other states open up, Peter Gutwein could face scrutiny he's so far avoided (ABC analysis). Downes: Christopher Downes is a Tasmanian cartoonist.

So this likely will be fought with actual physical violence. This whole strip feels like a Black Mirror episode, where it turns out it's all an augmented reality. It's annoyed me for a long time now how much credit/blame the President gets for the state of the economy. The following is obviously grossly oversimplified and not all that accurate but still. 1. The President is the head of the Executive branch of the government, which is responsible for enforcing the law. 2. The American economy is a free-market capitalist economy, which means it operates independently of the government. The primary actual way the two are causally linked is rich people write the laws, but somehow the President is the main person responsible for it all. Also for some bizarre loving reason according to these idiots, the President knows about this attribution, which obviously hurts his re-election chances, and ruins everything anyway out of pure malice presumably, but only when his name is followed by a (D).

I like how Ishida wants me to be intimidated by a cartoon blimp with a rainbow, a cartoon blimp with the symbol for trans folks, and a cartoon blimp with a...symbol widely recognized in the US as medicine/health related. He's missing the really happy guy, though, why am I denied the really happy guy blimp? And the confetti? Step it up, Ishida. edit: actually, he's so frequently bad at messaging that his strips mostly just come off as a bunch of people who don't have names moping around being sad and ominous about everyone else, who also don't have any names, being pretty happy and content. And zombies. Granted, there are a lot of zombies, but all the zombies ever do is...uh. I guess they chased some cops that one time? Something that helped the protagonist escape? And in this one they were very ominous with cell phones. kartikeya fucked around with this message at 03:31 on Oct 18, 2021 |

My mother volunteered with a group that did sex ed and abortion access in the late 70s/early 80s. Like, she was full into Our Bodies, Our Selves, you know. My first formal sex ed class was when i was seven, taught by my mother, in Sunday school at our very left wing church. I already knew the basics of where babies came from at that age, because I was curious and already had two younger sisters and my parents did not lie about things like that, but this class, taught over several Sundays, went into the basics of sex, pregnancy, fetal development, birth, and the concept of birth control. Sunday school sex ed was pretty extensive and accurate, without fear mongering, though I admit I did not fully grasp the concept of oral contraceptives and had the idea in my head for several years that women just had to take a pill every day forever when they reached a certain age, even if I wasn't really clear on why. As Branco suspects, I have grown into a crazed, depraved sex demon from this exposure to practically pornographic drawings of anatomy and frank discussion of sex as a normal part of human behaviour and -- no, I'm sorry, that's not right. I'm more or less asexual.

First Dog on the Moon: Barnaby Joyce reckons four hours isn’t long enough to agree on a climate policy – is eight years long enough?
