Yeah. The spawn on any squad member feature makes back capping really effective but not fun to do or play against. I started sort of enjoying bfv after switching to breakthrough.

And operations in 1 is great except its only on official servers so there's ALWAYS a Chinese hacker. Too bad Operations in V has way too much forced intro stuff that you can't even alt tab during (plus no one plays it).

I've always wanted a ut2k4 / enemy territory style attack defend mode with varied objectives in battlefield. Some day..

During the 1942 days my brother and I got picked up as dedicated air support pilots for an actual 32 player team that did comp matches against other full 32 player teams. It was great because everyone had an assigned role that they were actually good at, each artillery had a dedicated scout using binoculars to call fire, the tank dudes operated in formation, and when an air support call came down we were right on the money. We got picked up because we were on their server one day and my brother and I (using a joystick, because why wouldn’t we!?) were flying down the runway on El Alamein upside down while machine gunning all their planes before they could take off. The 32 man squad was a bit tough to control at the times but a couple of the dudes were “officers” whose sole job was to keep things running smoothly. And since we were solely concerned with the team winning, individual scores didn’t matter to us. Maybe the most fun I had with BF before I found my BF1 crew.

Nothing will ever be as good as 1942 was IMO. I've loved many different BFs over the years, but 1942 was special for me. For one, I had always wanted a FPS with vehicles in the style that BF is and so it was like somebody listened to exactly what I wanted and made it. I also had just moved into the dorms when it came out and had gone from 28.8k dialup to a 5mb connection which was blazing back then so my ping destroyed others. I play every BF because I want to capture that magic again, and while some of them have had their moments and most have been very enjoyable I will always remember 1942 fondly.

Looking at the 2042 site, the last two official updates were on the 7th and 14th so we should see an update tomorrow about beta feedback and what they'll be fixing for release. Hope it's detailed!

The devs have already put out a lot of info on fixes on twitter and reddit. Somebody posted (and I think I reposted) a jackfrags video a few pages back that gathered all that stuff together and went over everything they had indicated. It covered just about every complaint I've seen except specialists and the outcry has (rightfully) been bad enough about them that I expect they will at least make some changes if they don't remove the system all together. I have high hopes for this one.

That was me who posted the Jackfrags video. Yeah they have shared a lot of details but I want to see screenshots of UI improvements and examples of IFF specifically. That along with the other announced changes will solve most of my issues with the game.

BF1942 and BF3 both have a special place in my heart mostly due to where I was in life at the time. I have really good memories of 1942 with a roomate and BF3 on voice with friends.

people might actually defend points and scout for attacks if there was a metareason to care about winning the game (e.g. ranked points)

Apparently NDAs are being sent out to streamers for another play session that will include all three modes. Will it be this weekend? I hope so!

It will be cool to get some idea of how Hazard Zone plays and see Portal in action. The last session was only three hours though. That's a lot of stuff to try out.

I'm looking forward to 2042, there were some bugs in the beta (oh well, like every game in existence these days), the map was fun, and I enjoyed all of the gunplay, storms, vehicles, and specialists that were available. The negativity in this thread is absolutely insane, it's like 5 people that apparently don't like games very much at all just spam posting about how this is already the worst game in the series somehow, how they ruined the franchise, etc. I don't really understand why you post so much about a game you seem to hate based on a pretty fun demo.

I still have a preorder and that's not going anywhere. Beta was fun I just tend to not engage in hopeful theory crafting what will or will not be better. I'll take what I get, the settings is miles ahead of any "historical world war" in appeal for me.

And I guess people with negative impressions are always more vocal in all areas. Not much to say if your impression was positive outside of "I had fun".

Fairly certain it isn't. Definitely got a few hits with it during the beta where it just damaged the guy and they turned around and shot me to death before I could weapon swap.

They were shown as specialists in the reveal trailer, we just didn't know their names yet. Also apparently there will be lots of character customization so you'll probably be able to wear that helmet.

Oh my god, anti-air hand grenades :allears:

But basically all of these seem outright way more useful than the beta specialists except for grapple hook guy. The on-demand supply drop seems ludicrously useful, the wall hack is a wall hack, and even just the relatively boring shield makes you borderline invincible for a bit. Only the hacker guy seems a bit eh, though I guess that depends on how many interactables will actually be in most map.

The visibility issues are talked about in depth. Interestingly they'll have some of the changes for early release and the rest done by worldwide launch.

Dice posted:

We use the term IFF to describe the approaches we take to ensure that you can always, and easily identify between friend and foe. IFF is being improved. In our current builds, we’ve adjusted the behaviour of the systems we use to improve the experience.

Our IFF lighting is in the process of being further enhanced to enable enemies to more readily stand out on the battlefield.
We’re also adjusting the tint that applies to enemy soldiers, and made changes to the UI so that when you’re inside of 10m, an icon is now present above the heads of enemy soldiers, provided they wouldn’t be otherwise occluded by any terrain, or map objects.
Similarly, we’re working to ensure that friendly icons will no longer be occluded through walls within 40m to address instances of our systems failing to represent a player as a friendly team mate before they’ve entered your field of view.
You’ll see some of these changes active when the game goes live in our early access window on November 12th, with more changes taking effect for our worldwide launch on November 19th.

You don't play with people and want to call out where an enemy is? It was a big limitation as we were running around in the beta with spotting also being broken. In BF4 it had N marked on the mini map so it was easy to call it out.

Cliff's Notes:

  • Number of tanks on Orbital doubled in time for launch
  • Various movement tweaks in time for launch, like strafe inputs on sliding, vaulting on moving objects, and less jump spamming
  • Nearby Grenade indicator added in time for launch
  • Entry/Exit animations all either shortened or removed in time for launch
  • Elevators will be less funky at launch
  • Open Beta build was branched off from the main game "back in August"
  • Fixed matchmaking issues revealed by Open Beta where players would be sent into mostly-bot-populated servers, or servers outside of their region
  • "Show Map" key and Commrose will be present at launch, though Map key might not make it into Early Access start due to performance issues.
  • Compass is now always present on HUD, instead of just when ADS-ing, for ease of giving directions.
  • Pinging will work better at launch.
  • UI update: Scoring events moved back to their traditional place back under the crosshair. Sector and flag capture messages and the top-of-the-screen critical alert messages are now more "appropriately sized".
  • More stuff will be locked when you start out in the full game. Starting gadgets are Medical Crate, Ammo Crate, Recoilless M5 Launcher, and Repair Tool.
  • More settings for custom loadout settings at launch, including renaming.
  • Added a pre-round segment for you to chat and make adjustments to your squad setup, and a little cutscene at the end of a round in which some of the best squad players on the winning team get highlighted.
  • New UI elements at launch to tell you who needs healing, repairing and resupplying.
  • Maria's healing pistol now has better feedback and syringes magnetize to friendly targets for ease of healing
  • Friendly icons are no longer hidden behind walls within 40m, and enemies now have icons above their heads if they're within 10m and not blocked by anything, along with adjusted lighting to stand out a bit more.
  • Voice chat coming "after launch".
  • Cross Platform invites at launch.
