ROLL INITIATIVE!!

I love this show so very much. The first half of this season was a bit rough, but that's mostly down to Gail and the Chamber of Judgement being lackluster.

Gail, in particular, is a contender for the worst episode of the entire series. And it's hard to talk about it, because inevitably, someone chimes in with "I. Don't. Dislike. Gail!"

Thankfully, The Casino is right between those two, and it is a contender for best episode of the entire series. It's not as charming as Jackie Daytona, but it's funnier. The scene where they're writing on the walls is just :perfect:.

And I think my favorite scene in the show is Nando vs Guillermo in the finale. "The only reason you're alive is because I let you live." gently caress. And then Nandor stands up to his full height, squares his shoulders, and starts stalking towards Guillermo. It's a beautiful piece of physical acting. Reminds me of the old Christopher Reeves Superman, where he transitions from Clark Kent to Supes by just standing up straighter and taking off his glasses.

And then the frog splash off the top rope. So good.

That's almost as bad as watching American Movie with an ex and her telling me that I remind her of Mark Borchardt.

She also said I reminded her of Reynolds Woodcock after Phantom Thread.

Gee, wonder why that relationship didn't last.

Speaking of pronunciation, how do y'all say "denouement?" I've never consciously heard it aloud before, I always thought it was "de-now-mint" but this dude just went day-new-mont

Yeah, that's mostly how I've always said it (sometimes I say "deh-noo-mon" and have no idea why it seems right sometimes but not others), have no idea if it's accurate but it just seemed right.

There's an old David Mitchell video about how any time you come across one of those weird inconsistent pronunciations it is because rich people used it as a soft barrier to keep out new money.

Hence the difference in pronunciation of valet as a person who parks cars and a valet as a bodyman.

Historically there were many more French speakers in the upper classes as well, which led to situations like the meat of many animals having a different name to the animals themselves.

Yeah, I thought this season was pretty strong overall. The weakest episodes were probably the Gail one and the Guy Pillow one, and those were more just "okay" than "actively bad".
