This made me remember that my mom would always make garlic bread by slicing “French bread” from the grocery store most of the way through, and then putting a pat of butter and some raw garlic between each slice before toasting it in the oven. She was very proud of having devised this method.

Obvious improvement, roast the garlic next to the bread then smear it in the bread afterward.

I'd probably still eat a butter dip, but at least even the bad garlic bread had an attempt at a flavor besides fat and salt.

It's weird but I don't see a melted butter dip being crazy different from sautéeing in butter.

Dipping anything that costs more than forty bones in butter is taste and sophistication Anything less and you are literal garbage

Edgar Allen Ho posted:It's weird but I don't see a melted butter dip being crazy different from sautéeing in butter. It's not super different, more that the bread really soaks it up to be a very concentrated fat + salt delivery mechanism. Like I said, I'd probably still eat one, it's more that it's like the prototypical example of bland, unhealthy comfort food that could be made a lot more interesting.
