I was really hoping that full XP 2042 Rush would save this game. It doesn't. While the technical problems are largely gone, and the smaller scale is straight up better, the mode has been designed either as an afterthought, or by people who have no idea what makes Rush good.

The maps are still poo poo and have no flow.

The number of tickets available to the attacking team is ridiculously low.

The US is always the attacking side, and if you stay on after each game you'll never change from attack to defence (or vice versa).

Some maps, the attackers can be on the point before half the defence has even spawned in.

And, of course, the XP gain continues to be dismal.

Honestly, it's a massive missed opportunity.

It's crazy how much better Breakaway is than any other map in the game, at least on Breakthrough.

It'll be interesting to see how the Week 2 sales shake out given the reception to the launch and word of mouth. They almost always are lower than Week 1 though by how much it will be is the question. BF4 had sales drop by nearly 60% in the 2nd week but the BF4 sales numbers are weird because the game released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 at the same time then 2 weeks later it was a launch title for the PS4 and then a week after that a launch title for the Xbox One the Third.

Just put them on ignore jfc. It's pretty clear they can't help themselves, so yelling at them to stop posting isn't gonna do anything.

Back on the game, while patch 3 has definitely been less buggy the reload text bug seems more prevalent for me now. Think it's caused by changing weapon when it initially comes up, then it gets stuck. Hope they fix it in the next one or gonna have to wait until after Christmas.

I am enjoying playing the game.

Rush is pretty fun on these maps and a nice change of pace compared to the non-stop chaos that's AOW. Pubbies have not yet learned that smoke grenades are very useful in pushing objectives, as is tradition.

whats funny is that the game has so many more obvious and unpleasant problems than the granularity of the scoreboard. trying to debate everyone about that issue is pathetic

the bug where you cant aim down sights after exiting a vehicle seems to be happening to me more often this patch which is super frustrating

As I've gotten older, one thing I've started enjoying is just observing other players doing what they do. Sometimes I'll follow a random player or ride along in the passenger seat of a pubbie driven vehicle, not for transportation or anything but just to see where they're going and what they're trying to do. Sometimes you see some really fascinating stuff and have to wonder what their thought process is.

Not exactly the same but it's incredibly satisfying to just ride shotgun or play almost exclusive support to the occasional good pubbie player where it feels you're helping them reach their full potential.

Its not a perfect perspective but steam numbers continue to drop, even into the weekend following a release where you would expect to see a big uptick there was only the smallest in bumps of active players according to steam and a near launch battlefield currently sits at less players than garry's mod and euro truck simulator 2. I suspect its week 2 numbers were brutally bad for the franchise.

Battlefield 1's was rather smooth and well received by the player base at launch, save for the not being able to quit rounds and the random looped reload bug on bolt action rifles. They ended up fixing quite a few of the bugs found in the Open Beta which was twice as long as 2042's and was nearly twice as early. Ended up being the best selling game in the series.

Lol no it wasn't. It was hailed as Battlefield copying COD because of the movement system and being too infantry focused. Over a little time the community mostly learned to stop moaning and enjoy the game but it definitely had detractors to begin with, especially from the older players.
And then when the DLC came out with the female snipers, JFC, they wouldn't shut up about their 'realism'.

I always found it weird how people just forgot that BFBC2 was seen as "not a real battlefield game" at launch on PC because it was only 32 players, and focused on rush instead of conquest. Hell it didn't even have prone position, right?

Anyway, I hope they stick with this game and improve it over the time because I think the base gameplay is pretty good. They're never going to get rid of the specialists, that's way too big a rework for a game that's already released.

I really just want more maps. They Rush BF2042 variants are kinda cool but the attackers need more tickets, and the need to switch up the attack/defend sides.

Yeah every battlefield has had a strong negative reaction on launch because there are several subgroups of battlefield players who enjoy specific but different parts of the BF gameplay. Inevitably 20-40% of the community hates it and since most gamers are entitled manbabies they can't just walk away and play a different game but instead have to yell really loud and tell everybody else that is actually having fun how they are wrong and should be having a bad time. (see upthread)

On top of that, every BF release always has technical problems so those get universally criticized. A few months after release most of the bad bugs have been fixed and most of the fuckheads have finally moved on and the poll numbers start going up until the next BF comes out and the cycle repeats.

I've always considered Bad Company to be a side entry into battlefield like BC:Modern Combat, Play for Free, or Hardline. Doesn't mean it was less fun, but it always felt like a game made strictly as an entry as a console game they decided to also give to the PC, because why not.

Philman

Alot of the critique comes from the franchise expanding the player base with different modes and also attempting to satisfy them all with one game.

-conquest
-tdm
-breakthrough
-rush
-rescue (hardline's counterstrike mode)
-firestorm
-hazard zone?

All have different fanbases who dont always like the other modes.

It's just too many things to focus on.

BF2042 is like 5 different products in one.

I remember doing this back in Battlefield 2. On a whim i followed a sniper from the us spawn on Dragon valley. It is a fairly big map, a long chasm with a river in the middle. During our journey we rode cars, boats, a helicopter and then i almost lost him when he ditched a car off a cliff with me still inside it. I think it was 10 whole minutes of him just zigzagging around the map until he finally arrived at the enemy spawn and promptly got crushed by a tank driving through the bush he was in. When i asked him what his plan was, he replied "sniper" and disconnected.

That's when you try and bait them into a racial or homophobic comment that you can report to get them banned. It's a game within the game.

I have to assume it's not showing the flares. I'll get the lock, fire the missile and it will keep flying straight at the last location the helicopter was at. Then 10s later on I hit them with another AA missile so it was probably popped during the first pass.
