Worst MMA Hype

Dumbest Career Move

UFC 270 - Ciryl Gane, up on two out of three judging scorecards in the final round of a heavyweight championship fight and finally in top position after getting wrestled to death for half the fight, rolls for a heel hook and loses everything

UFC Fight Night 205 - Dean Barry manages to lose to the second-worst fighter ever signed to the UFC because he can't stop fouling him

Khamzat Chimaev - a lay-up fight away from being handed the title on a silver platter - starts a near riot while not named Connor McGregor and missed weight by eight pounds leading Dana White to muse publically that maybe Belal deserves a title shot more.

James Krause so blatantly leaking insider information about his fighters that he ended his gambling/coaching career, got at least one of his fighter's cut, put the future of sports betting into question, put a PPV into jeopardy, and forced a number of fighters to choose between losing a paycheque or taking a giant risk with a last minute camp change.

Super Rizin - Putting SATAN on the portion of the Floyd Mayweather VTR when he was beating up Tenshin https://twitter.com/Grabaka_Hitman/status/1573878692845178881

Greatest Schadenfreude of the Year

Giga Chikadze saying he deserves a title shot vs Volkanovski after he beats Kattar, instead of Korean Zombie. Proceeds to get butchered on the feet by Kattar

Kamaru spending the run-up to 278 pontificating about his plans to jump TWO DIVISIONS to become double champ in the most difficult way possible, only to get knocked out cold in the final minutes of the match he was running away with.

Rose Namajunas "I'm the best" then performs so abysmally that she probably won't get a chance to win her title back from someone she already beat twice.

UFC 279 - Khamzat Chimaev loving up his first main event, an absolute layup against Nate Diaz, by missing weight, getting bumped down the card and a new, better opponent.

Ngannou won a unanimous decision by scores of 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47, which means 2/3 judges had the fight tied going into the final round, and up to that point in said round Gane had landed multiple combinations and taken Ngannou down in comparison to Ngannou's nothing, so it can be safely assumed that he was ahead in round five and had he either maintained top control, returned to the feet or basically done anything except let Ngannou get back on top of him, would have won a split decision.

i don’t speak french so i can’t confirm, but i’ve seen a number of folks saying gane’s corner advice after the 4th was mistranslated and they were actually telling him he was behind and needed to go for the finish, which, if true, kinda explains the heel hook and redirects a lot of the blame towards his coaches.
