The highlight of the old LP was Pat putting his thumb on the scale by just constantly doing poo poo like checking the knife and playing it off as normal inventory fumbling for Matt.

I got a good laugh when he didn't even try to hide it by the end and even Matt figured something was up.

It's been a long while since I've played Silent Hill. What's up with the knife again?

Silent Hill 2's endings are determined by a bunch of esoteric conditions, including a bunch of seemingly innocuous actions you can perform throughout the game, like how well you treat Maria in her escort segments and how long you spend close to death without healing. Examining the knife in your inventory pushes you towards the ending where James commits suicide, because it's associated with Angela's suicidal ideation.

In Water is honestly the easiest ending to get if you’re just poking around like a normal first time player, it seems like the one they steer you towards the first time intentionally. The other ones seem almost like rewards for getting better or trying new things

If you're diligent about healing, the Leave ending seems pretty easy to get. Maximilian got it on his first playthrough without knowing anything about the endings, he just played normally and explored pretty thoroughly while healing when he took any real damage.

My favorite part of Max's SH2 playthrough was his tendency to galaxy-brain his way through various puzzles. He'd try everything except the simplest solution, which of course would be the correct one.

I like how mad he got when chat said to trigger the depths kirk fight when they were in human form and literally like 2 meters away from his spawn trigger while he was personally precision striking Reggie into every npc summon sign to trivialize all the bosses

On the other hand Reggie had fun rolling with his bros.

Also, looks like Everhood is on Woolie's schedule - glad to see that game getting picked up by more people.

Not every summon sign, just Lautrec and Solaire's, and even with Solaire there's one he (probably purposely) missed.

Completely justified, it's one of the best lines in the whole series and people have pored over it like loving Biblical scholars.

I only hate when people's takeaway from that line is "Heather's killing real people!!" because it's so dumb the monsters in Silent Hill are clearly real

Almost all of Vincent’s dialogue is really bad and out of place, and as a character he is basically almost meaningless, but it’s all worth it because his voice actor is hilarious

I've been playing some big name games in recent years that do not look as good as SH3. That game's visuals are absurd.

a_gelatinous_cube

Maybe it was the age I played it at, but the beginning of SH3 with the mall at sunset slowly getting grimier is burned into my brain as peak Silent Hill aesthetic and I've never had that vibe replicated in any horror game I've played since.

Also while I don't think I liked the voice acting in SH3 initially when I came back to it much later I liked Heather especially who bounces between scared and then very done with it.

I used to roll my eyes at the people who said "The bad voice acting is what makes the characters great in SH2!" I just wanted the game to have flaws, and that it was okay to have them. I came to appreciate the original dub when I finally heard the redubbed voices in the HD Collection where the lines sounded so clean and professional that they actually sounded as offputting as the original dubs. I then came to appreciate the flaws of the original voice acting, where the characters' hesitation and mis-matched emotions sound a little bit more like what real people would sound like in a horrible situation. It's sort of a cool split to think about sometimes.

Dabir

I don't think it's even bad, it just doesn't sound like what people are used to from "good" video game voice acting. It's no Mega Man 8 or House of the Dead 2.

laura bailey is a better angela, which is doubly impressive because angela was one of the most memorable performances from the original

Whenever he talks in interviews or on that channel he did with Nolan North, I always get the impression that nobody is more tired of Troy Baker and Nolan North's default voices than Troy Baker and Nolan North.

The voice acting in sh2 is bad but it feels like the same kind of bad that you’d find in a dubbed Italian horror movie that makes everything feel surreal and otherworldly so I get the appeal

davidHalestorm

But then you get to the letter-reading section during the ending and it's just full-on sincerity. What a gut-punch. Along with that Angela's line of "For me, it's always been like this". I get the hype for Silent Hill 2 now.
