In the wake of that probable scam "When We Were Young" tour thing coming out with all the emo/scene kid bands, I had this ancient memory that resurfaced of listening to a friend's mix CD back in high school. Really can't remember much except the lyrics were some narrative on a guy that compares him to a doll or a toy maybe? either referencing stitches or unravelling on some level. That might have been the chorus because I remember it being repeated. (Possibly whiny) male vocals, I'm thinking more emo than nu metal or hardcore. Can't be any older than 2010

Back when I still used p2p services I downloaded some Dream theater and there was one song that really stood out because it was so different from everything else. It was really heavy on keyboard and light on everything else if I'm remembering right. Total instrumental I believe. Haven't been able to find it since on youtube and it only occurred to me like, now, that it was probably mislabeled

Yeah when would this have been? If it was literally pure instrumental... Did they even release any instrumental tracks that long ago?

Oh hey, wait, yeah, the song I loved that other Dream Theater fans told me I was not a real fan for loving because it was not PROGRESSIVE ENOUGH (does not exactly fit "heavy on keyboard" to me, though):

It's possible it was a LTE song mislabeled too now that I think about it.

This is probably an ask too far: AGES (like ten years plus) back, a breakbeats (I think) youtube video; vhs / desaturated aesthetic, shot in a broke down or partially built place, performer wearing big light up gogglies like Busta had on in Gimme Some More. Real underground / not-famous vibe.

I doubt this is correct (it's definitely not 10 years old), but it's just similar enough that I might as well try it.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
Trying to recall a 21st century modern classical piece that had lyrics "written" by Google autocomplete. The composition had the "singer" recite the autocomplete results in an Einstein on the Beach-style monotone voice. "I will [x] I want to [y]" etc.

What’s the song where the refrain is na na na na na na na na or something? Sounds sort of like the later part of Hey Jude but faster tempo, and the main part of the song is rock. Upbeat pop rock type of song, probably early 2000s but maybe earlier? It is a very basic pop greatest hits type song, what you put in movie soundtracks

And not the hey hey goodbye one either

i don’t know why i can’t find this song with this much information and i’m positive i didn’t make it up so here goes

recent-ish (def last 20yrs) song about an immigrant wanting to work, definitely has a line close to “waiting six long months”, i think the title has “hands” in it (i thought it was “in your hands”, but it didn’t show up). sung by a guy, music video is a buncha people in an (unemployment?) office that break out in dancing during the chorus. hand claps on the upbeats and very catchy hummed melody in the intro

OK thread, wonder if anyone can help me with trying to identify the worst cover of Hotel California I've ever heard. Had the misfortune of be exposed to it whilst waiting in an Odeon cinema lounge and it's like a club / pop / dance version with female vocals. Didn't have a latin beat or anything, just sounded very chart / clubby, recent, hyper-produced and the female vocalist sounded pretty valley-girl. It was also pretty fast paced.

I don't know whether to post this here or in the white whale thread, but here's a stupid long shot.

There was a very unassuming post in this thread that linked a clip of a song that sounded professionally-made, but couldn't be identified by apps like Shazam. It was pretty clear-sounding clip of an indie pop/rock tune, kind of reminding me of Two Doors Cinema Club. It had lyrics, and I'm pretty sure it was sung in English.

I couldn't say what the song sounded like or anything as I can't remember it, but all I know was that nobody could identify it, yet it sounded mysteriously well-made for what it was. This post was made roughly 10 years ago, so around 2011 or 2012? I tried looking all the posts in those years, but couldn't find anything easily. The only thing I had going off of was the post included a link to a snippet of the song, so it would've had a Tindeck or Zippyshare link or some old site that could share music clips easily at the time.

Is there a way to search for posts in this thread that contained links? Searching for things like "tindeck" only yields posts with just the word Tindeck but wouldn't retrieve URLs containing tindeck.

Just checked this to be sure, and it looks like if you enter "url" or better yet "http" in the search box at the top of the page, between the bookmark and GO buttons, you get posts with the URL tag or untagged links, respectively. Not sure if it's all possible results, but there's at least a couple pages of stuff to look through, and it might be a good place to start.

There’s a song that shares the opening synths of this but has a dreamy female vocal. I feel like it was prominently used in TV or film in the past few years, maybe Stranger Things?

Description reminds me of Beach House, but I can't find a track which exactly matches the melody. Something like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpVB4agCfEY
has the same sort of arpeggio, but descending rather than ascending. If it might be them, then I'd suggest checking their IMDB page and trying any songs that played in a show/film you actually watched, like Space Song in Atlanta, or whatever?
