Some great action and big spills right out of the gate. I'd be terrified to be in the crowd for that Mitakeumi vs Takayasu bout. Also poor Teru did not look good edit: oh yeah, I also updated my picks when Ishiura was declared kyujo. Question for Kenning: when are our picks registered? Do you collect them one by one as they are posted or do you do a sweep once the basho i about to start? I.e. do we need to announce if we update our picks leading up to the basho? Teru Daiesho always seems to cause him problems but that was a very flat performance from the Yokozuna and given his past issues I hope he isn't cooked. Definitely picked him with my heart this time in the hopes we'd get another dominant Basho from him but yeesh, he doesn't look healthy at all.

I watched my first full day of juryo. It makes perfect sense but it was still surprising to see how obviously everything was a level below the quality of the top division. A little bit messier, a little bit slower and ramping up through the bouts.

Pretty okay with my picks! Tochinoshin is basically a guaranteed MK at M9 but I can't not support him. Everyone I've got is 1-1 right now; it's definitely looking like it might end up one of those bashos at the moment. Still plenty of days to go, though. Here's hoping Wakamotoharu didn't injure himself somehow; he was definitely limping a bit when they cut to footage of him walking backstage :ohdear

i was feeling very bad about my team at 0-5 on day 1 and every one of my first choices except for the yusho winner everyone's gonna want and then i watched day 2. 4 out of 5 with the only loss being a match between 2 of my guys. everyone in the san'yaku now has a loss on the dohyo by day 2 and i wonder when was the last time that happened? not counting kyujo/fusen etc
